What is dolby digital? Dolby digital is a 5.1 speaker set up, which means 4 surrond speakers, a central mixer speaker, and a subwoofer. So why does this speaker system say Dolby Digital Compatible, yet is only 4.1, 4 speakers and a sub? Altec Lansing claims that the 4 speakers mix channels in between to create a virtual 5th speaker. Yeah. Right. Now that we have identified that this setup is Dolby Pro Logic (4.1), on to the review. These speakers are very well designed. The two rear satelites, which don't have much sound at all, attach to the two front ones, to make more powerful 2.1 This is what I primarily used in my setup. The Subwoofer is behemoth, about 35 pounds. It is probably the best part of the system. It makes the Jurassic Park effect with water. I could hear this thing hours after I had shut down. Now for ratings, to sum it up for you:

Great, really simple connection cords, manual is nice, picture is perfectly laid out, shouldn't take more theen 10 minutes
DESIGN 4/5
The speakers were designed quite nicely. They attach, the subwoofer is nice looking. Only minus is the subwoofer is wooden, so stubbing toes hurt.
SOUND QUALITY 2/5
I don't know what it is about these speakers. Even when there is no sound on, if you have the speakers on, and there is any treble settings, it sounds bad. This odd fuzzy sound, like when you turn the cable off, but not the TV
SUBWOORFER 4/5
Huge subwoofer, most powerful I have ever seen. Great bass, kicks in the chest. It occasionally buzzes and hums though.
INTERFACE 4/5
I didn't like the crank style of changing bass, treble, and volume settings. However, the green bars were good for at night, and the remote was very cool, good for those of you with DVD Players.
PRICE 1/5
For 300 dollars, you aren't getting what you deserve. Cambridge Soundworks FPS 2000 is 5 times better, at only 150. Bit of a rip off for the osund quality.
OVERALL 2/5
These speakers had a chance. But price and sound quality killed off any chance of success. Save your money and get some Klipsch 4 point sound speakers. The subwoofer is 65 watt, and the speakers pump out 400 watts, that is dangerously high.
