crazykid1399's Full Review: Altec Lansing AVS300 2 Speakers
I got these speakers bundled with my computer system when I bought it new in September. I did not actually request these exact speakers however I am very pleased with what I was given.
The Altec Lansing AVS300 is overall an excellent quality speaker system. Included are two satellite speakers, a subwoofer, and a power adapter. One thing I do not like is the amount of wires involved with the 3 speakers. This is with any speaker set unless you get wireless or something along those lines.
Overall usage is extremely easy with only 3 things to plug in, to get them working. One option that they do lack compared to a Boston Acoustic set I own is a treble adjustment. But there is a bass adjustment knob on the woofer. There is also a simple single button that you push to turn on the power which is located on one of the satellite speakers.
There were no special discs included with the speakers that gave additional software to enhance the speakers in anyway through your computer itself. I have never seen this though in my life so I didn't expect to get anything special, especially for such a value priced system.
The sound quality is very good in all areas except for total bass. I love bass and can't get enough of it and this system really lacks that I feel. But the total output is very powerful and I can crank it up and hear it very well throughout the upstairs of my house without much distortion.
They are a small system and you can just throw the speakers anywhere within about 10 feet of your computer at most I’d say. They don't take up a lot of room and will fit anywhere you need them too...except the subwoofer it is pretty large and you do need it to run the system. (Power passes through it) but they will fit on any standard desk.
One use that I like form these is that i use my computer as a home DVD player (my comp. is hooked up to our 32" TV and the sound is perfect from the speakers.
Overall I'd give them 2 thumbs up and whatever else you give stuff. great system to own buy it if you don't have any speakers. I would suggest the 5 speaker surround or a more powerful system (wattage wise).
