| ken44's Full Review: Altec Lansing ACS 54 4 Speakers |
Before I bought these speakers I had a pair of crappy generic speakers that come with most new computers. They are ok for simplistic sounds, but when you want to play music, games or DVD at a good quality, then they really don't do the trick.
I looked around and found the ACS54's to be the best value for money, and after reading some good reviews on them, decided I would give them a go.
Setup was easy, no fuss - just plug the yellow plug into the yellow hole, blue plug - blue hole.....etc.
I booted the computer and the cracking of thunder made a jump a mile. Thunder???? Its my startup sound, it gets loaded when you install the Liveware software for Soundblaster Live! soundcards.
I quickly loaded winamp and put on some Matchbox 20. WOW. The quality was awesome. Every note was crisp and clear. I has never head anything quite the same. It really is that good.
The only problems I have found is the bass is very boomy. It has no punch and if turned up very loud can be quite off-putting. At normal listening levels it is quite acceptable tho. Also there is no headphone jack, which might seem like a small feature, but should have been pretty easy to include one, so i can't understand why they didn't.
