This is a great looking refrigerator which appears to be a great item in the kitchen. It has wonderful door space and good adjustable shelving.
The shelves in the refrigerator side and the freezer side are able to be adjusted to the height and size that is most useful. They are easily pulled out and popped back in to make the adjustment quite simple.
I have noticed recently that the doors are not quite aligned properly. They do not match up and seem to close on one side with a bit of labor. More to my dismay, at times when I open the freezer, the shelves fall off and the frozen vegetable bags fall to the floor. I think that this may be a design flaw, since there is not enough stay on the shelf when you engage it back in position for the slide on positioning.
However, I am sure that can be adjusted as well.
The ice maker and the cold water compartments on the freezer side all work well. However, I have found that there is some problem replacing the bulbs on the freezer door side. I cannot find where the interior bulb is located and it is now dark in the freezer, since the bulb went out.
I obtained this refrigerator with the house I bought one month ago. I was pleased to see the nice quality of the refrigerator and its clean and spacious appearance.
However, I replaced the cooling motor two days after closing. About one week ago, this horrible noise began to occur each time the refrigerator went on to recycle. Now, it wakes people up three houses down, each time it kicks on. My dad, who is a former appliance repair man says it is the main motor. If so, I will have spent over $700 in about a month to maintain this appliance.
The repairman noted that Amana has been bought by Whirlpool and then by Maytag. Thus, according to him, all of the Amana appliances are now Maytags!
The twice in a month problems with this refrigerator is not exactly what I had in mind when I admired this unit when I bought the house.
Also, the bulb went out on the water and ice dispenser the other night. I got a small bulb to put in its place to find that it did not work. I have tried two other bulbs, in the event that it was faulty, and to my despair, none of them work.
The day after the repairman left my house, I raised the butter tender to get butter out and low and behold, the door to the butter tender fell off in my hand. Simply upon being opened, it fell out of the holder inside the plastic housing that holds the butter and fell off!!!
This refrigerator is like an accident waiting to happen!!!
I plan to go out in a few days and buy a new refrigerator rather than replacing this one element at a time.
Amana - do some quality control on your appliances! If Maytag is truly the owner of Amana now, let's get the Maytag guy to give them a hand in making these boxes work over a period and not just for a few days!
