| BeckLuther's Full Review: Amazing Babies |
This was the one hot ticket item my little girl wanted this year, to our dismay. We usually do not like to buy interactive toys, simply because we feel they do not allow enough room for a kid's own imagination.
But, what's a parent to do when you ask your child "honey, if you could ask Santa to bring you just one thing for Christmas, what would it be?" Loaded question, we learned a powerful lesson from her answer. "Amazing Baby!"
Now we were stuck, we simply had to buy the latest doll to hit the interactive scene. I did find Amazing Baby simply adorable upon initial inspection at the toy store. The price was not too high, comparatively speaking, to the other interactive dolls, and she comes with some cute accessories. So, I walked out of the store with the one in the purple floral smocked dress and wrapped her up, still not convinced this doll was worth the purchase.
However, on Christmas morning, my five year old daughter's "amazing smile" was enough to satisfy me when she opened the box. But, since that one second thrill and every parent's dream, we have been terribly disappointed.
Granted, when you first load the batteries and sit down to interact with Amazing Baby, she is very cute and it's a novel idea. Although, it's too bad the idea didn't quite get carried out any further.
She turns her head in the direction of a voice. She babbles at first, then after chatting with you for some time, learns new words and phrases. This happens way too fast and in no time, that too, has lost it's appeal.
She asks for her accessories to be loaded into her hand (we found the plug in her hand easy to use.) But, she's very demanding, and after a while becomes annoying in my opinion. But, after my low tolerance level with Amazing baby's antics, I convinced myself that a five year old would never tire of her cuteness.
Was I ever wrong? Within one day, my little girl had abandoned her new and short-lived friend. She turned her off (switch on back) and put her to sleep, literally! Amazing Baby is still in her deep sleep state. We prompt my little girl periodically and ask about Amazing Baby. Each time, it's the same, sad story . . . "she's asleep Mom."
Unfortunately, we might as well dig a grave in the wasteland for dolls that we seem to keep acquiring. This one didn't even last one day. Will we ever learn?
And, that's all folks. Yeah, Amazing Baby sits on her bed now, speechless. But at least she no longer demands anything of us. She's cute sitting there and that's about all I can say, other than don't waste the $40.00 unless you need another hood ornament!
