Think Amb-iance, Think Amb-er

Written: Apr 19 '00
Pros:Great Food, Great Ambiance.
Cons:Long wait w/o reservation, a little expensive.

I am indian and I eat at indian restaurants at a lot..

Amber India is by far the best indian restaurant in the bay area. It scores over any other indian restaurant for the food, the drinks the decor and yes the ambiance. Though you could find cheaper places to eat, you may want to try Amber sometime. Its worth every penny. They serve lunch buffets too.

Course you'd wanna make a reservation first..but if you land up without one, it may be a wait anything from a few minutes to a half hour, depending on the no. of people and the time of the week. The staff is very courteous and warm.

To start off, try an authentic indian mocktail called "jaljira". Its made from an extract of cumin and rock salt..it has a subtle spicy tangy flavor and serves as a superb appetizer.

For appetizers, go for the kabob platter..particularly the chicken tikka. Its amazing.

On entrees, I would recommend the "baingan bharta" for vegetarians. Its a dish made with roasted eggplant sauteed with onions, garlic, tomatoes and yummy spices. The butter chicken is awesome and so is the chicken kadhai (chicken in a wok). Try this with superb indian bread..I recommend "missi roti", a delicious pan roasted bread made from lentil flour. Course you may want to choose the roti basket (assorted breads).

Totally go in for the chicken biryani.

The lamb is good..but me not being a red-meat fan couldnt comment enough..for some reason I thought the meat was a little chewy.

I recommend you take someone special, or even your family to dinner and enjoy a scrumptious meal to subtle indian instrumental music, a beautifully ethnic decor and cherish a fine moment forever.
