Pros: Quiet, extremely powerful breast pump. You control all settings. Great for traveling.
Cons: A bit on the expensive side when compared to pumps available at local discount stores.
October 20, 2 months into nursing my daughter, my life truly changed. Prior to this date, I had been using this small, non-powerful pump with a claim of being this "silent, powerful pump where you can control the speed and suction". Well, I found out the hard way that "power" was in the eyes of a very weak individual and that the settings that you control on your own, is lifting your finger manually on and off this little tiny hole the WHOLE entire time you are pumping. Until Ameda....Ah! Ameda! Hand delivered to my door with all accessories, including a car lighter adapter. What more could a new mom want? Accessories included (8) 4 oz bottles with lids for storage of milk, a storage case with build in freezer packs, (these really keep the milk cold a long time and are great for traveling), A/C adapter as well as battery option, and a carrying case in a neat little black bag that compactly allows you to take it all together. You can learn more about these pumps, as well as view pictures at www.ameda.com.
Cleaning of this machine is a breeze. For sterilization, there are just the 2 bottles that hook up to the main machine, along with the 2 breast shields and filters. There are not a lot of messy tubes you have to clean and worry with. Therefore the risk of infection from bacteria is lowered with this model of pump. The collection devices can be put in the top of a dishwasher for easier cleaning also. Basically, the maintenance and care of this pump is very low, so you can use your valued and precious time for more important things.
To say the least, this machine is awesome. It truly can double your pleasure and your fun. A job that used to take a minimum of 30 minute each night, was now down to 5-10 minutes total. The Ameda Purely Yours is truly a very quiet, powerful, quick action electrifying breastpump. Yes, you are going to spend some pretty pennies, when compared to machine number one, but it is WELL worth it. The pump has not only a power or suction setting, but also a speed setting. Never in my life have I seen a faster pump. If I had to purchase one again, I would definitely go with Ameda Purely Yours. Think about it....you spend $200 on this pump, and this is a one time fee. The average person who does not breastfeed spends roughly $1200/year on formula. That fact alone makes me grin from eat to ear. I traveled with this pump several times on car trips of great lengths (800 miles) and couldn't have done it (sanely) without the Ameda. This breast pump definitely has the most bang for your buck!
