American Eagle 22 LR Hollow Point
This is a good quality 22 Long Rifle cartridge that comes loaded with 38 grain hollow point lead bullets for guns that shoot better with hollowpoints or for hunting small game.
Federal has been a top manufacturer of ammunition since 1922 and the American Eagle brand has some of Federal's more popular offerings for value conscious shooters. Located in Anoka, Minnesota, Federal Ammunition is made in the USA.
American Eagle ammunition is a subordinate line from Federal Cartridge Co. It comes in a red box and is less expensive than the first line ammunition that comes in the silver box under the brand name Federal. I have shot quite a few varieties of American Eagle and have yet to be disappointed. The ammunition is available in centerfire in both rifle and pistol calibers and in rimfire cartridges like these 22 Long Rifle cartridges.
Soft lead bullets like these cartridges are loaded with need to be protected to avoid deformation although they can function through all action types I shot them in my Smith & Wesson K-22 and they shot fine and hit where I aimed them. I also fired some through my Colt Government Model with the Ceiner 22 Long Rifle conversion and there were no malfunctions and the bullets flew straight. I've also tried them in a garden variety 22 autoloading rifle and it worked just fine, too.
The cartridges come 40 to an individual box and 400 to a case of 10 boxes. Each box is $2.50 - $3.00 apiece with the case going for up around $20.00. Ammunition is getting more expensive all the time so it pays to stock up while it is still affordable.
The cartridges are also available in almost identical loadings with a 40 grain solid nose bullet, if you prefer.
