Representative of era during World War II, this 18” doll reflects American heritage and speaks forth with regard to the helping nature many sported during difficult war times.
Molly has long brown hair, gray eyes, pale peach skin-tone, and she wears glasses. She is adorable, arrives in a schoolgirl type of attire, and exhibits an innocent smile that is replica of the innocent childhood days.
There are a multiplicity of stories, accessories, matching girl clothing, and doll clothing available for this superb doll. I appreciate the superior products offered by Pleasant Company, am a repeat customer, and marvel in the inspiration that each doll provides toward reading and history seeking adventures.
Life in 1944 ~ American Girl Collection - Molly Doll~ amidst WWII
Based from the period of time during World War II, Molly is replica of life in 1944. Her father is oversees, and her adventures depict those of children in this situation. She has long dark browns hair, and her eyes are a tender gray shade. This 18” doll is enjoyable. She is soft to the touch, superb quality, and certain to be adored by the gift recipient.
Within The American Girl Dolls Collection there are 7 theme oriented dolls offered. Each one of these high quality dolls represents an era of time, has a multitude of accessory options, and at least one book related to her life style, era, and family. Each 18” doll represents the high quality known from The Pleasant Company.
Molly
This American Spirit doll arrives in clothing that depicts schoolgirl attire, but is representative toward fashions from 1944 also. Her navy blue/red/green argyle sweater compliments the navy blue wool skirt that she is wearing. A white dickey peeks out atop the sweater, and has blue rickrack trim along the edge. Mary Jane shoes compliment this outfit, and crisp white socks add the perfect touch.
She has long brown tresses, cinched into crisp braiding, and tied with red ribbon. A gentle bang line flows just above her tender eyebrows, and adds a charming compliment to her bold grayish-blue eyes. Her tender lips part slightly, allowing us to see two teeth. This adds a believable touch toward the girl age, versus some dolls that maintain too much of a baby-like appearance. The pale peach skin-tone is accented with blush at the cheekbones. She is beautiful, soft to the touch and truly a wonderful gift for girl’s eight years of age and older.
Included with initial purchase you receive you receive the Meet Molly book. The element of the book inclusion thrills this Mom! This wonderfully composed book tells about Molly, her life during World War Two, her family – friends, and introduction to her multiplicity of adventures. Her father is stationed overseas, aiding to this doll being especially appreciated by children with parents serving in the armed forces. She offers an excellent introduction toward World War II education.
There are a multiplicity of optional accessories and clothing essentials available for purchase. I will mention that the clothing will fit other 18” dolls, and this isn’t limited to the American Girl brand. So there is the option of purchasing a less expensive / mock doll, and purchasing the book. However please realize that there really isn’t a comparison between hair and clothing quality. All others appear inferior after owning the American Girl line.
Molly has a bike – additional purchase of $54 – that my daughter adores. It has a light and horn that work, the kickstand is operable, and the bicycle fits all of the American Girl Collection of dolls. This blue mode of transportation also has a fun metal basket on the front. The aviator jacket - $22. - was an appreciated addition during the phase of time that the girls dad worked for Boeing (laid off). They still appreciate the jacket, but the flight theme is a slightly sore subject at the moment. One of the accessories that I like is the chrome table and chair set - $65. This set reminds me of the table and chairs that my parents had.
American Girl Collection
All seven dolls have a soft main body with arms jointed at shoulder point, legs jointed at thigh top, and a head that easily rotates side to side. Their legs, head and arms are constructed from soft-to-the-touch vinyl. Each limb and their head pivots to various positions. Each is crafted with the same fine workmanship of all American Girl products! The tresses – although varying in length and coloring – are the finest among dolls offered to girls 8 and older. Skin is soft to the touch, and complexion varies, to depict race represented.
Each doll is theme-oriented, and offers a slice of history with each serving. Children – adults too! – adore this line of product, and become familiar with the logo. Although the expense may appear high to some, I guarantee there to be a tremendous difference between this line and the $20. mockery.
Some may fret over the $84. suggested retail price that adheres to these dolls. However, the excellent quality really does make each doll worth every hard-earned penny! The hair quality alone surpasses most doll tresses. I grow so tired of the tangled mess that the average doll hair becomes after a mere week of ownership. This has not been the case with any of the American Girl dolls that Chelsea owns. So, considering the superior quality of the dolls, I am very pleased with this line.
Concluding Thoughts
Understand I do not feel this is a recommended purchase for most children under 8 years of age. My opinion is based on the purchase price and the fact that the clothing uses tiny buttons, zippers, and fasteners that will be hard for the younger child to affix. We have always received rapid delivery and excellent service from American Girls. Some of our purchases have been via telephone, while others were processed online. Molly was purchased via telephone, and arrived promptly. I highly recommend all of the American Girl dolls, accessories, and clothing for girls.
