| sblaydes's Full Review: American Girl Today - Coconut the Dog |
When we took our then eight-year-old daughter to the American Girl Store for her birthday last year, I knew that Kit (One of the dolls in the American Girl Collection) was on her wish list of items to purchase. I can also tell you that when we walked past a display featuring Coconut the Dog, I just knew that Coconut would be coming home with us. It didnt long at all for my daughter to stop, gasp, and pick up Coconut the Dog and look at both her father and I with those big blue eyes of hers. Yes, that was all it took for us. Coconut had immediately found a new home with our daughter.
While Epinions refers to Coconut as the American Girl Today - Coconut the Dog, for the remainder of this refer I will simply refer to him as Coconut
~ What a cute name! ~
If you know my daughter, then you know how she loves animals
especially dogs. Yes, there does seem to be an endless supply of stuffed animal dogs in our house, but Coconut was different. I swear that Coconut looks up at you with his face tilted (Nice effect!) and those big black eyes of his just scream love me! One of the reasons I decided that Coconut was worth $16.00 to purchase was that he would make a great sidekick for my daughters American Girl dolls. I had also spotted some of the cutest little accessory pieces for Coconut (sold separately) that I knew my daughter would have a blast with! Top it off with the great quality I have found American Girl products to be, I assumed that he would make a great friend for not only my daughters dolls, but for my daughter as well. I was right
And the name Coconut, well
we just thought it was so cute!
Coconut looks exactly like the photo image shown above. He is in a sitting position. It really is too bad that you cant see his cute little tail sticking out from behind him. (Yes! I think that I like him just as much as my daughter does!) At approximately 5 inches in height, we have found Coconut to be the perfect size for not only her American Girl dolls, but in general as well. (Coconut has made several car trips with us!)
Coconut sports soft white furry hair in which I just love because
it does not shed! Gee, if only my black Labrador could have fur like this! While you can run your hand through Coconuts fur, for the most part his hair stays in place. We have not had to do any spot cleaning of our Coconut yet. In looking at Coconut, I think that the only way you could clean his fur when dirty is by spot cleaning. Coconut is not your typical stuffed animal. What I mean by that is that he is not made entirely of stuffing. There is some type of weight in the inside of Coconut I assume which allows Coconut to stay seating in the sitting position. This weight is not heavy by all means, but
if one were to throw and hit someone in the head with it, it would take you by surprise!
As I mentioned above, Coconut sports big black eyes. How American Girl could make these eyes look like they are pleading with you, I just dont know. But they do! Coconut also has a cute little button nose. While I did mention above that there are several accessories that are sold separately for Coconut, you do get a collar and leash with the purchase of this Coconut. The brightly colored collar which features striped colors and yellow rhinestones on it is not only adorable, but easy enough for my daughter to take on/off. Our leash, on the other hand, must not stay on well as I could not find it. I have seen it in the past, just not lately. Apparently Coconut no longer needs a leash! Any ways, the leash is just as cute as the collar as it is made of bright colored string that has been braided together. Oops! I almost forgot to mention the cute little flower charm (pink/yellow) that is hanging off of Coconuts collar as well.
Just like Coconuts friend (Licorice) that I reviewed several months ago, Coconut also has a magnet hidden behind his fur and mouth. This magnet allows Coconut to hold special toys that you may wish to purchase at a later date.
~ Cant make it to the American Girl Store? ~
Never fear! If you cant make it to the American Girl Store in Chicago or New York, there are a couple of other options for you. I have made several purchases via the American Girls web site at www.americangirl.com. I have found this web site easy to use. I have also phoned in catalog orders and have found that system easy to use as well. Either way you choose to place your order should be pain free. Shipping was reasonable and every order has come when scheduled to arrive. American Girl has always done a great job in packaging and none of the items I have ever received have been broken during the shipping process.
But trust me
if you can make it to one of the stores, do it. It is amazing!
~ This dog is a welcome addition to our home! ~
As you can probably already guess, my daughter and I would both give you a big two thumbs up for Coconut!
I know that $16.00 is a great deal of money for a stuffed dog with a collar and a leash, but I assure you that it is a quality made product. In fact, I know that the day will come when my daughter no longer will want to play with Coconut and her other American Girl products so I plan on boxing them up and saving them for when she has a daughter of her own. Wont that bring back the memories for my daughter, and me? Sniff
