American Girl Licorice the Cat is the newest member to our home!

The Bottom Line: Yea! Another quality product from American Girl. Now my daughter can have the cat she has always wanted.

When the American Girl catalog hit our mailbox last fall, I knew that shopping for my eight-year-old daughter for Christmas would be a breeze. After my initial quick glimpse in this catalog before letting my daughter run off with it I knew immediately of a few items that she would be placing on her Christmas list. I assumed that the American Girl Today - Licorice the Cat was near the top of this list. Was I right?
For the remainder of this review I will refer to this cat simply as Licorice…
~ Could she be any cuter? ~
So, was I right? Of course I was right! In fact, it took her probably only a total of a couple minutes before she spotted Licorice in the catalog and came to find me let me know that she needed Licorice.
I believe that Licorice is still fairly new to the American Girl Today product line. According to the American Girl web site they refer to Licorice as “Coconut’s friend”. (Coconut is a cute little puppy.) I know that when we were at American Girl Place last spring, Licorice was not around. Trust me, if she were… she would have found her way into my daughter’s shopping bag!
Licorice looks exactly like the photo image shown above. Standing in at approximately five inches in height, she is the perfect size to be a faithful companion to my daughter’s American Girl dolls. Upon your first glance at Licorice you may notice that her head is tilted a bit to her right side. You probably also noticed those green eyes of hers! Those eyes seem to really stand out from her mostly black furry body. The only exception to the black fur is the white fur on the tip of her tail, a patch on her chest and then a patch around her nose/mouth. The fur around her face is a bit longer which allows you to play with it a bit. (I personally like to see how far I can get it to stand out!) Licorice also sports several clear plastic whiskers that extend from the white patch located around her nose/mouth.
Speaking of her nose/mouth, besides that cute little pink nose of hers Licorice can also do something else with her mouth. She can hold onto her pink sparkly cat toy. How you might ask? Licorice comes with a magnetic mouth. Licorice’s little cat toy has no problem staying put in her mouth when my daughter chooses to have her hold her cat toy. Another cute feature that Licorice has is that her tail is moveable meaning that you can have her tail stand straight up in air, lie it low on the ground or even have it curve somewhat. I guess that it all depends upon what type of mood Licorice is in.
There are two accessories that come with Licorice that were a big hit with my daughter. First off would be Licorice’s rhinestone collar. This collar looks just like a diamond tennis bracelet and is stretchy enough that my daughter had no problems putting on Licorice’s collar or taking it off. I’m not sure how much tugging this collar would put up with before breaking so my daughter has chosen to strictly keep it on Licorice and not play with it. I think that this is a very smart move.
The other cool accessory for Licorice is her pillow to sit on. On my gosh… it is too cute! This pillow is wide enough for Licorice to sit and must be quite cozy too as the main portion of it is made out of a silky material that sports a rather funky butterfly theme in different shades of pinks and white. To make this pillow even funkier, it is trimmed with pink feathers all the way around. These have got to be the softest feathers ever, I swear. Needless to say, this pillow was a huge hit with my daughter who would love to have one of her own. Did you hear that American Girl?
There was one more bonus item that came with Licorice that neither my daughter nor I were aware of. It was a fuzzy sticker featuring non other than Licorice herself. Very cute!
I should also mention that I ordered Licorice (and several other items) via American Girls web site at www.americangirl.com. I have found the American Girl web site easy to use. I have also phoned in orders in the past and have found that system easy to use as well. Either way you choose to place your order should be pain free. Shipping was reasonable and every order has come when scheduled to arrive. American Girl has always done a great job in packaging and none of the items I have ever received have been broken during the shipping process. I personally find these to all be very important features when placing orders from any company.

Yes, I am happy to report that yet another American Girl product gets a big two thumbs up from this Mom and daughter duo. Licorice is cute enough by herself, but when you place her on top of her pink satin and feathered pillow, she is quite adorable. I can truly see why my daughter is pleased with this new addition to her growing family of American Girl products.
While the price of $16.00 initially seemed a bit high for Licorice, once you see Licorice (and accessories) in person you will most likely change your mind like I did. Not only have I found the quality to be top-notch, Licorice has brought my daughter many hours of fun and enjoyment. Licorice and accessories come in a cute little box which allows you to wrap easily, and… to disguise what is inside. Licorice the Cat would make a great birthday present for that girl on your shopping list.
