American Girl Today - Tropical Breezes Outfit... how cute it is!

Pros: So darn cute! And, well made!
Cons: The price is a bit hefty, but... I feel worth it.
The Bottom Line: What can I say? This is yet another fun and great quality product from American Girl that should be around for years and years!

For my daughter’s last birthday I found birthday shopping to be quite easy, thanks to Santa bringing her the American Girl’s Kailey doll for Christmas. You see, Kailey needed some more outfits and accessories. So, about a month before my daughter’s birthday I gave her the American Girl catalog to circle some of her favorite outfits that she would love to dress up Kailey in. One of the new outfits (at the time) they were advertising was the American Girl Today - Tropical Breezes Outfit. This short outfit is so darn cute that I knew I couldn’t pass this one up! (Um yes, I do realize that this is my daughter’s doll and not mine!)
For the remainder of this review I will be referring to this as the Tropical Breezes Outfit…
~ Twenty-two dollars for an outfit! Are you nuts? ~
If you have never looked at the prices of some of the American Girl clothing and accessories, you may have a bit of a sticker shock. I know that I first did when I made my first few purchases for my daughter’s Bitty Baby. The Tropical Breezes Outfit will cost you $22.00. Not quite the price for a Barbie outfit, right? There are a couple of thoughts to my “reasoning” for making this purchase.
1) My daughter loves to play with her Kailey doll. While she seems to have outgrown Barbie, her Kailey doll is played with almost on a daily basis.
2) When my daughter has outgrown her Kailey doll (sniff) I plan on packing up the doll and all her clothing and accessories to give to my daughter one day when she has a daughter of her own. Yes, I really do think that this Kailey doll is worth keeping for many years.
3) My past experience with American Girl products has been very good. So, I felt that with this purchase I would get some cute, high quality clothing and accessories that would last. I was not wrong.
Ordering from American Girl has always been easy. You have several choices; catalog, phone or internet to choose from when placing an order. I have ordered all three different ways in the past. My orders have always been timely, and… I know it might sound silly, but the presentation of the product has always been nice. Instead of just placing an outfit in a cheap plastic bag they place them in a box, complete with tissue paper. What can I say, I like that.
~ So cute, my daughter wanted her own outfit to match! ~
I kid you not; my daughter would have loved to have a short outfit like the Tropical Breezes Outfit. Okay, with the exception of the pineapple purse, that one was a bit too “out there” for her! What all comes with the Tropical Breezes Outfit? You get: shorts, top, bandana, sandals, purse and sunglasses.
~ shorts ~ These shorts are a sky blue color and sport a tropical print (go figure!) in bright colors. This print features a Hawaiian flower and palm tree design running throughout it. I am happy to report that these shorts are very easy for my daughter to get off/on of Kailey with the Velcro back. Why is this a big deal? Have you tried to put a pair of shorts or worse yet, pants on a Bratz doll?
~ top ~ I’m not quite sure if I should call this a tank top or a halter top, but know that it is sleeveless, and sports a thing strap on the shoulder and another thin strap that Velcro’s around Kailey’s neck. Like the shorts, this top is easy to get off/on of Kailey with the Velcro back. This top is so darn cute! It is lime green in color and sports a sky blue lace trim on the top and bottom portion of the top. (You might get a better visual from the photo image above.) Then on the lower right hand corner of this top is a sewn on Hawaiian flower that matches the flowers in the shorts. Very tropical!
~ bandana ~ I’m not sure what my daughter thought was cooler, the sunglasses or this bandana! The bandana is of the same material and print as her shorts. What I like is that it has an elastic backing to it, so that way it already fits snuggly on Kailey’s head. I had visions of us tying and retying this bandana on Kailey’s head but that is not the case.
~ sandals ~ These are a very cute accessory as well! These shoes sport a cork-like heel with sky blue straps. On the straps on the front of the foot is a little pineapple decoration made out of plastic. I like the fact that this is a button and is not glued onto the shoe. The back strap is easy enough for my daughter to get the shoes off and on.
~ purse ~ As you can tell from the photo image above, this purse does look like a pineapple. The bottom is made from a yellowish material that has shiny little plastic pieces on it that really make it resemble the bottom half of a pineapple. The top of this purse has eight silky green leaves. To close this purse there are two drawstrings on each side that you pull to close. To open, you simply pull the leaves apart. Currently my daughter is storing some hair accessories inside this purse for Kailey.
~ sunglasses ~ These sky blue lens sunglasses are pretty darn chic! There is even a cute little pineapple gem decal on the left hand side for a bit of glam. And yes, these sunglasses really do stay on Kailey’s head. They also fold up just like real sunglasses do which is great for storage!
~ Yep! We like it! ~
The American Girl Today – Tropical Breezes Outfit is yet another American Girl product winner in this household! This mom and daughter team is in agreement that this was a very cute clothing/accessory purchase for Kailey.
Once you get past the initial shock of the price, I believe that you will be happy with this purchase. It’s made of great quality and should be around for quite some time for my daughter to enjoy, and perhaps… even a daughter of her own someday to enjoy! So, if you are already looking ahead to the upcoming Holidays, you might just want to put this down as a great gift idea for that special girl in your life!
