When my daughter’s birthday rolled around last year high on her list of birthday gift wishes were some more outfits and accessories for her Kailey doll. She had gotten Kailey as a Christmas gift a few months prior and, believe it or not, Kailey only had a couple of outfits to choose from. As luck would have it, the American Girl catalog found its way into our mailbox about a month before my daughter’s birthday. I had my daughter highlight a few of her favorite items for her wish list. When I came across the American Girl Today - Weekend Fun Outfit in the catalog, highlighted, I wasn’t the least bit surprised. It looked exactly like something my daughter would want Kailey to wear. Honestly, it looked exactly like something my daughter would want to wear!
For the remainder of this review I will be referring to this product as the Weekend Fun Outfit…
~ How come this kind of stuff wasn’t around when I was a little girl? ~
I have to be honest here; I love this American Girl stuff. I only wish that this would have been around when I was a little girl. Thus, my reasoning for being so weak when it comes to making purchases for my daughter.
As I mentioned above, I was not the least bit surprised when I had seen that this Weekend Fun Outfit was on her wish list. It looked exactly like an outfit she would love to wear, including the hat. (This could be because she does have a hat in the same style and color in her closet!) While I will admit that the price for this outfit is a bit high, $22.00, I have yet to be disappointed with an American Girl product. Plus, if you have never seen any of these clothing items let me tell you, they are well made, usually packed with little details, and are so darn cute. So are the accessory items that come with them!
So, what all comes with this Weekend Fun Outfit?
~ hat ~ This floppy khaki hat is just adorable and features some really cute details. While the edging on this hat is fringe, it also has lines of blue threaded stripes on the bottom half of it. Just above this are a couple of embroidered flowers in blues and whites. I’m telling you, the material of this hat feels just like the material on the hat my daughter owns from her swim club.
~ top ~ The American Girl web site refers to this shirt as a “sleeveless side-tie top”. The majority of this sleeveless top is white with a background of little bright green flowers running throughout. On the center of this top is a little American Girl logo type silkscreen. The edging of this top is done in a very pretty blue. The tie portion of this top is made out of the same blue material and is sewn onto the shirt, so that it will not come off. I like this feature as there is less to loose.
You don’t need to worry about whether this top is hard to get on or off of your American Girl doll as the whole backside is Velcro. This makes for taking this shirt off or on a very simple process. For those of you who have ever removed clothing from a Bratz doll you will understand my reasoning for mention this feature.
~ cropped pants ~ These black cropped pants are so darn cute! As you can tell from the photo image above that on the bottom of the pant is a blue material hem that features a little bit of fringe at the bottom of the pant. They also have a cute little silk ribbon on both sides that can be tied. My daughter has opted to just leave these untied and it looks very cute!
Remember how I mentioned details above? On these black cropped pants you will find blue stitching on the pockets, hem line, and also on the legs. There are also a couple of embroidered flowers that match the ones on the hat located on the lower right portion of the pant leg.
~ sandals ~ Oh my gosh, these sandals are so darn cute! They are a flat sandal with a black heel. The straps are made out of material and are blue with a yellow stripe running through the middle. To help keep these shoes on Kailey is another blue elastic strap that would go around the ankle. Oh, and I must not forget the little faux silver buckle on each sandal.
While my nine year old daughter has no problem getting these sandals on her doll a younger child may require assistance mainly because of the elastic strap in the back. Personally, I don’t find this a negative towards this outfit.
~ jewelry ~ Doesn’t everyone need to coordinate their jewelry with their outfit? If so, then you won’t be disappointed! Two bracelets and one necklace complete this Weekend Fun Outfit. The one bracelet is bright green with orange stitching on the edges of it. It also sports a faux silver buckle on the front. This one is easy to take on or off of Kailey as it has a Velcro closure.
The necklace is on a brownish cord with a closure like you would find on an adult version of this necklace. It also sports a little charm, which reminds me of a sand dollar charm that my daughter once had. This one will most likely require some assistance in getting on, especially with younger children.
Now for the second bracelet that comes with this outfit. It is also made out of the same brownish cord as the necklace and has the same closure. It sports a bluish stone that I swear looks exactly like a small piece of Nerd candy. No kidding!
~ How do I get one these outfits? ~
I purchased this Weekend Fun Outfit last March via the American Girl web site. I can tell you that I have also made purchases from American Girl via the American Girl Place located in Chicago, over the phone, and have even placed a mail order with them before. As I have mentioned in several (probably all) of my American Girl related reviews, I have had great success with either form of ordering these items. I have been impressed with their quickness in processing my order and with the presentation of the items.

I have to tell you, my daughter’s Kailey doll looks so darn cute in this outfit! I once again am impressed with the quality of the clothing and even the accessory items. Twenty two dollars is a lot to spend on an outfit for a doll but thankfully I have not been disappointed in this American Girl Today - Weekend Fun Outfit. It is well made and pretty darn cute and I would definitely recommend it to others!
