OVERALL IMPRESSIONS:
This has been a really good way to have my children draw and use their imagination.
WHAT YOU GET:
You get four notebooks that are shaped like the red thinking chair. You also get four crayons. The crayon colors are blue, red, green and yellow. Each notebook has 30 white sheets inside.
WHY WE BOUGHT IT:
My daughter started watching Blue's Clues when she was about 3 1/2 years old. I have to admit, the show is quite cute and pretty good at getting children to think about the clues that they see on the show. Once my daughter started watching the show, my son also started watching it as well. He is 4 years older then his sister, but has a diagnosis of PDD-NOS, which stands for Pervasive Developmental Delay Not Otherwised Specified. He really liked the show and I could see this was a good way to help him to really think about the clues in each show.
I think they had been watching the show a good 6 months when they decided one day that they saw a clue. It was cute and I wanted to encourage them. I tried just buying them some regular small notebooks at Walmart, but neither of them was happy with this idea. They could not stick a crayon in the bound ring section and the notebooks had lines.
Thank goodness I found this at Amazon and added it to my next order. My kids were thrilled. Now any of the crayons could fit in the ring section. Of course they really liked the crayons that came with it as well.
OUR EXPERIENCES:
It was so nice for me to hear them go around the clues seeing clues and drawing the pictures in the notebook. They had a really great time with this. Of course my son filled his notebook first, so it was nice that we had two extras.
They actually liked playing this quite often and I thought I may need to buy more, but that did not happen. My son is not that picky about his drawings and he used the backpages and then just started drawing over his other drawings.
My daughter finally filled up her first notebook and moved on to he second notebook. I found it before writing this review and she has just one page used on it. My son's book is full and has some that are just plain scribbles, but he was using his imagination while playing with the notebooks.
They did not look for clues every day, but this did keep them entertained nicely on some rainy and wintery days.
WHERE TO BUY:
This may be available in party stores as I think it is intended to be a party bag goody. The best price online still seems to Amazon at $3.88. You can also buy it with a plush Blue for a special price at Amazon.
AGE RECOMMENDATION:
This is best for ages 3 and up. Of course, your child should already be a fan of Blue's Clues first so they know what to do.
