I had been wearing Acuvue contact lenses since I was a freshman in high school, so about 10 years. I wore them day and night for two weeks straight (sometimes three) and would keep them out for a day, then switch to a fresh pair. I could tell if I needed to take them out early if need be, and the only time my eyes got irritated was if I KNEW I should have taken them out for a bit, but didn't. At my eye exams the doctors always said my eyes were fine so it wasn't like I was wearing them improperly. I loved Acuvue, they were AWESOME. Remember, I wore Acuvue for TEN YEARS.
Then last October I needed an eye exam. I told the doctor I had always worn Acuvue lenses but he first had me try Diagnostics, then Biomedics. I had SPECIFICALLY told him I wanted lenses I could wear even at night. He told me that Biomedic lenses were better than Acuvue, but didn't eloborate when I asked what the difference was. "They just are" I was told. I wore my sample pair for a week and they seemed fine. I purchased a years supply of the Biomedics lenses and I've been wearing them almost a year.
I can't tell you how much I hate these lenses. Sometimes I can see out of both eyes just fine. Sometimes the right eye is a little blurry, sometimes the left. Some pairs I get horrible eye strain and I figured I might have put the wrong prescription in one eye but after 10 years I think I know what I'm doing. I've even tried swapping them and it won't help. I often have thrown out the ones I've been wearing because of some unknown reason that particular pair just strains my eyes.
These lens were billed as allowing your eyes to breath better, but I'm not so sure about that. My eyes rarely got dry with the Acuvue, but if they did I would just blink and "tear-up" a bit and it would be fine. I can't seem to pull the same trick with the Biomedics. I concentrate and blink like I use to but nothing happens. I can't seem to make my eye wet again like before.
I've given up on wearing these things at night. With Acuvue there was never any problems, but with the Biomedics I'll wake up with horribly dry eyes, and I've had several minor eye infections such as terrible sensivity to light from wearing them at night. Maybe they weren't meant to be worn overnight but I SPECIFICALLY told my doctor I needed a lens I could wear to bed. This upsets me because I very much dislike wearing my glasses.
I'm wearing my glasses even now because I'm sick of these lenses. The pair I had in the other day was messed up too. The left lens was considerably thicker than the right one, and it was in the same box as all the others. Normally contacts will fold in at the drop of a hat and this one won't even if you try to make it do that. That's not right!
I'm assuming my doctor gets some kind of kick back for prescribing these junk lenses. About a month ago I called in to order more lenses, but I said I wanted ACUVUE this time. I blew through the "year" supply in like 8 months because I was going through them so fast. The ordering person said I would need to make another doctors appointment for it. I said fine, I HATE the Biomedics and if I have to get an appointment for Acuvue, so be it. He just blew me off and said 2 boxes of Biomedics would be waiting for me. It's like they didn't even care.
In summary I would never, ever wear these lenses again. When the same lenses from the SAME box vary in quality from week to week you know you have the wrong brand. I will be going back to Acuvue as soon as I can get an appointment with ANOTHER doctor.
