| kjade's Full Review: American Lawnmower Deluxe Light Reel Mower 1815-16 |
This lawnmower helped me declare my independence from my husband and get the lawn mowed at MY convenience! There were many things I used to hate about mowing the lawn. (1) Going to town to get gas (2) Transporting gas in my car (3) Trying to start the lawnmower (4) Fear of losing a body part (5) Dead frogs flying all over the yard (6) The physical exertion on a 100 degree day with 90% humidity (7) The noise, pollution, etc.
All of this going on in my beautiful garden was the total antithesis of what gardening is all about to me. Then I ran across this little number. I was very skeptical at first. When I was a kid my grandma had a reel mower and I couldn't budge it. I mean, I couldn't move it one single inch. So I had my doubts when a friend told me about these. But then he said he got one for his mom, who was over 70 years old, and I decided to open my mind and my prospects when it came to my most hated garden task.
I did a little research and found out you could buy one for around $100.00. Well, my husband likes to "tinker" with things, and he also likes to use a lawnmower as a DR brush and field trimmer. So we were spending around $300.00 every other year for a mower. I'm not exaggerating! If you don't take care of a lawnmower, they won't last very long. So when I realized I could try a totally new approach to lawnmowing for $100.00, I jumped at the chance.
The very first thing I noticed was that I could lift the thing out of the truck and into the shed ALL BY MYSELF. I mean, you can literally pick up the whole mower and lift it in the air by yourself! The next thing I noticed was that I could listen to the birds, the radio, the telephone, any noise that happened to come along while I was mowing the yard! That means no one could drive up the driveway and surprise me in my yard clothes, sweaty and smelly, jerking around on a heavy, loud lawnmower.
The amenities of this beautiful machine just kept coming in waves. You can mow when the grass is wet! You can mow whether there's any gasoline or oil within 50 miles! You can mow half the yard before you could drive to town to get gas! IT NEVER FAILS TO START! What's more, YOU DON'T HAVE TO START IT! After 3 years, there's been absolutely no maintenance!
This is a revolutionary machine in my opinion. But like any revolution, it does have it's price. I do have a nice, sodded bermuda lawn. This is the perfect kind of yard for this kind of mower. (According to my sister-in-law who maintained a commercial golf course, this is the best way to cut grass, for the grass.) But I did use this mower before my lawn was sodded, and it worked well as long as you didn't let the grass get too high and as long as you weren't trying to mow broad leaf weeds. But for a relatively small yard, you could sod the thing and maintain it for what a "push" lawnmower would cost. And have you read how much pollution a lawnmower makes? I don't recall the exact figures, but it's unbelievable how much pollution lawnmowers contribute to the air.
Do your part! Cut down on pollution, both noise and air pollution, and at the same time LIBERATE YOURSELF FROM THAT MAN! Get one of these lawnmowers and mow at your own will, at your own pace, and without being caught unawares by visiting neighbors while you're mowing the lawn!
