gerstein's Full Review: APC Back-UPS Pro USB 500VA (BP500CLR) UPS System
I wouldn't normally be so excited about a UPS, but this puppy has Mac support! We ordered one for our design dept. to test how well it works, and it's VERY good.
When the power goes out, you can see how much battery power is left, just like you were using a laptop! When it gets really low, it will shut the machine down for you. This part is important for us, since the UPS's we have now will just delay the hard shutdown of our machines when we're not around.
The setup is dead simple - plug the UPS into the wall, plug the USB cable into the computer/UPS and then install the software. You really don't have to do much else from this point - the software handles it all for you.
Another nice feature is that the UPS has both surge supressed/power protected and just supressed outlets - letting you plug just about every thing you need into just one place - very handy.
