After leaving our lovely room in South Lake Tahoe, during our vacation, we made our way up through Lassen Volcanic National Park and eventually found ourselves in Redding, California. Unfamiliar with the town I pulled into the first hotel I saw, which was the AmeriHost on Larkspur Lane. Taking a look from the outside the hotel had a newer and or remodeled appearance. After a quick check-in we settled into the room.
Aw, Look At The Puppy
Hotels that accept pets is becoming more and more rare. Right away it was obvious that the AmeriHost is one of those rare hotels, simply by its population of canines. With a little bit of research in the directory, I found that they charge $30.00 in addition to their regular hotel rate. Ouch, thats not a deposit, either.
In The Room
So at first sight the room isnt too bad, but it certainly isnt new and it certainly isnt remodeled - at least not recently. Its obvious that this hotel has had work done to the outside, while the rooms still need a bit of attention themselves.
This hotel does offer the interior corridors. Just inside the entry way of our room was a small open closet and vanity and sink to one side and on the opposing side was a small bathroom which housed the bathtub/shower and toilet. The closet housed iron and ironing board, along with a safe and a hairdryer was on the wall above the vanity.
This hotel has full size beds in their double rooms. I much prefer queen size, but I cant complain too much since my bed partner is under 3 feet tall.
On the opposing wall the hotel had a number of pieces of furniture. A lowboy had the TV, an alarm clock, coffee maker and a lamp on top, while a desk by the corner had a lamp and a computer chair. Aside from the desk the room didnt have any other tables, but a chair and floor lamp where in the corner next to the bed.
In between the lowboy and the desk was a decent sized refrigerator, but they leave their refrigerators turned off to conserve energy. We left ours off, since we were toting a cooler anyway.
The Nitty-Gritty
I never thought much about the carpets in hotels until I took my son on vacation. It shocks me how a carpet can look clean, but actually be filthy. I good test for this is my sons feet
His turned absolutely black here. We made a trip up towards the front of the hotel just to peek at the pool and happened to catch the lady at the front desk and show her his feet. Her only comment was that the carpets had been cleaned
last fall.
Surprisingly enough, the rest of the room appeared clean, but so did the carpet at first glance.
My only other major problem with the room was a lack of trash cans. We had 2, but they were tiny.
Amenities
The hotel does offer a few extras. They do have a decent sized indoor pool just off of the lobby area. Within the pool area there is also a whirlpool and a lot of lounge chairs to sit in.
As many other hotels offer the AmeriHost also has high-speed internet available to its guest, an exercise room and complimentary breakfast.
We made use of the breakfast come morning time, but it didnt amount to much. They had waffle batter & waffle irons, breads, donuts, apples, oatmeal packets, cold cereals, coffee, milk and juice. The breakfast room was located behind the front lobby area, but didnt appear to be well kept up. Many things were half empty and the selection was pretty slim.
Price
Our room was $89 for 2 adults and child, which put it up at just over $99 with the taxes.
Overall
Granted, I dont have any plans to return to Redding, California in the future, I definitely wouldnt stay at this AmeriHost if I did make a return trip.
