A Fork For All Seasons

Written: Dec 09 '00
Pros:Strong, light, durable, and sleek
Cons:That you have to dirty this wonderful tool with manure

If you have piles of manure that you need to move with an oversized "fork," then let me tell you, this is the manure fork for you. About three months ago, a herd of cows got loose in my town and slowly made their way from neighborhood to neighborhood on a spree of destruction, terrorizing my whole town. Children were afraid to go outside, and the whole town had to be closed down for about three days. The National Guard was eventually called in to herd the escaped cattle (they had to kill 5 of them before the remaining 23 surrendered), and finally people felt safe again.

But despite the fact that the direct danger of the cows had now been removed, massive damage had been done. Seven houses were completely destroyed by the cattle, and dozens of others needed massive repairs. Fortunately my house was unharmed, but in the course of the three-day stand-off, the cattle had left a giant mound of manure in my front yard. During the massive town-wide clean up, my neighbors and I had the task of removing this huge amount of cow manure from my lawn. We tried shoveling it into my pickup, but the manure was too thick for the shovels. So I went out to Ames, and to my delight, found the Ames 4-tine manure fork. They were only $17 each, and looked really very beautiful.

I bought three, and my neighbors and I were soon making great progress. In seven hours, we removed 14 truckloads of manure, and finished the next day, filling the truck 4 more times, finally removing the last traces of cow waste. The manure forks really served us well, digging right in, and being strong enough to lift massive loads at one time. They all endured the two days of work easily, and didn't leave me with one blister. Really, I can't possibly see how a manure fork could work any better than this one did.
