When I first bought PS2 Online, I recieved a demo of a game called Frequency. Eyeing the cover front and back I popped it in my PS2. I thought it was odd but enjoyed the music. That was probably 3 years ago. I've recently been playing the sequel Amplitude to that which blew my mind away and still does everytime I play it.
Sound(5/5)- I loved the songs in this game. Right when you start the game P.O.D will make you pump up the volume with their hit song "Boom". Theres so much music, some you will know, some you won't but in turn there all great songs. Theres hit bands like Papa Roach, or David Bowie, Blink 182, Weezer, and P.O.D. Even though you use the controller you're feet will still lift up and stomp down. With over 23 hip-hop and rock songs, the music in this game is stunning.
Graphics(4/5)- It seems like you're inside a computer or a cyber tunnel, but you're really inside the instrument you switch to. The backgrounds are very creative and will make you're eyes pop out. Accompanying that is a video playing in the background of the bands song you're playing. For instance when playing Papa Roach's song you will see a baby which I believe is there trademark. You'll also see the character you created on one side of the screen playing whichever instrument you switch to. The models of the characters are cartoony and look very unique. There's not really much to say about the graphics but that there really good.
Gameplay(5/5)- I'd say to not plan anything for a while because you will become highly addicted to this game. Right from the start when creating your own character from the many clothing options which are unlocked from the start and are unlocked from beating the boss stages, you'll find yourself getting more and more eager to play. One you're character is done you can either take the Basic and Advanced training or go straight to you're first song.
I''d say to do the training because even on the lowest difficulty you may have some problems playing this. Yes It's a little difficult but need not worry, after a little practice you'll really start to learn it. When you first enter the stage you'll see a few boards for some levels. Some levels you might see all six. these six contain various instruments, but some do not come in at every level. There is the Guitar, Bass, Synth, Vocals, Drums, and another pair of Drums. You're job is to get all these instruments to play so it sounds like the song you picked.
There will be little discs hovering around on each board which you have to destroy to get the music pumping. there are sets of these little discs that once destroyed give you points. You can destroy these discs either in a top down view, or a more of a first person view.
You have to destroy these discs by hitting the button that corresponds to what side the disc is on. If the disc is on the left side you would click down the R1 button, or the Squae button if easier. If its in the middle you would click the R1 button, or the Triangle button, and if its on the right side you would click the R2 button or the Circle button. There are also numerous chckpoints on each level that restore you're health if you lost some from missing some discs. You'll know how close you are to a checkpoint by the bar thats on you're left hand corner.
There are powerups as well. the auto blaster will blast away the discs if you came in late on a set. The Slo-Mo will slow things done making it easier to hit the discs, the Score Doubler which doubles your point everytime you finish the set, which can rack up a lot of points, and the Freestyler which when used puts you in view fo an icon and by using the control stick can spin this icon around making it seem like you're mixing, which can get you big points as well.
There are all used by the X button. There are also boss battles which when beaten unlock new places with new songs. if you have enough points on one place after beaten the boss battle you can unlock the "weird" bonus songs. These basically range from techno to dance. There is an option to edit the songs track. this lets you change where the discs are in the song.
The game also has an online portion but, I don't believe theres many people playing so maybe you'll have to get used to playing with you're friend in the 2 player mode!
The 2-Player mode is a little hard. You have an aerial view of you and your friends disc destroyer. You play on one set of 6 instruments. You have to work to get more points than you're friend to win. This can be a little confusing so its not the best and its also a little frusturating.
