Pros:Dishwasher safe, Non-stick surface
The Bottom Line: A nice casserole dish to use for baking, freezing, storing food in and serving in.
If you've read any of my past reviews, you would know that I have tendonitis in my left wrist, along with a Ganglion Cyst, which makes it hard at times and difficult to lift certain things like bakeware dishes from my oven.

A few weeks ago I prepared a nice rice and chicken casserole for our dinner in one of my baking dishes. When I took it out of the oven, I lost grip and it slipped out of my hand, hit the edge of my oven door and flipped over onto the floor. Upon hearing the crash, my husband rushed out to the kitchen. When he saw what happened he got really upset with me. He wasn't upset because his dinner was ruined, he was upset because I didn't call him to take the dish out for me. He knows that I have trouble taking heavy dishes out of the oven. I knew that our dinner was ruined, but I was hoping that maybe my dish wasn't broken. And then I saw the crack down the middle of the bottom of the dish. I picked the dish up and ended up with two pieces in my hand. I cleaned up the mess and we ended up ordering out for a pizza for dinner that night.
Now this meant that I had to go out and buy another baking dish. Two days later I went out to our Target store looking for a new baking dish. I did find a Corningware dish just like the one I broke. But as I walked down to the end of the isle I came across this Anchor Hocking Blue Premium Non-stick Oval Casserole baking dish. There was a glass lid that came with it, and the bottom and sides of the dish was a Colbolt blue color. It was just the color that would go well with my country kitchen. I now was deciding which bakeware to buy, the Corningware baking dish or the Anchor Hocking Casserole dish. After several minutes of deciding, I finally went with the Anchor Hocking Blue Premium Non-stick Oval Casserole Dish, because the Anchor Hocking Casserole dish had extended handles, which would be better for me to handle, and the Corningware dish didn't have handles. Of course the Colbolt blue color was very appealing to me also. So I purchased the Anchor Hocking Oval Casserole dish for $17.99
When I got it home I removed it from the cardboard sleeve that it came in. That's when I noticed that the interior of the bottom and the sides of the dish was covered with a non-stick dark gray surface which could be scratched easily if it wasn't taken care of properly. I've never seen a glass bakeware dish with a non-stick surface like this before.
Anyway before I used it I washed it out good in hot soapy water and dried it with a dish towel. Of course I had to try it out right away. That afternoon I made our favorite Green Bean casserole for our dinner that nite. It came out great. And yes my husband did remove it from the oven for me :-)
Easy to grip extended handles.
Convenient clear glass lid.
The entire rim along the top of the dish along with the extended handles are a clear glass, while the outside bottom and sides of the dish is Blue Colbolt in color.
The inside bottom and sides have a Non-stick smooth gray interior surface.
It has a 2 Qt. capacity.
The size is 13½ long, 9 inches in width and 2½ inches in depth.
The dish is glass and oval in shape with deep rounded inside corners. With a few of my other bakeware dishes, I've noticed that sometimes food will have a tendency to burn a little in the corners. With these inside rounded corners in the Anchor Hocking Casserole Dish this doesn't seem to happen.
Before I bake in the Anchor Hocking baking dish I always spray the bottom along with the sides of the dish with a little Pam Vegetable Spray. Although it does have a non-stick interior it does make cleaning the dish and removing foods a lot easier.
Any stubborn baked on stains will release if the dish is soaked in soapy water. If necessary a non scratch scrub pad can be used. Although I've found that by just using a sponge after it has soaked a while usually removes any left over baked on foods easily. And if your lucky enough to happen to have a dishwasher, the Anchor Hocking Casserole dish is also dishwasher safe.
Care and Use:
I really try to take care of all of my cookware and bakeware that do have a non-stick surface. I have several plastic, wooden and nylon utensils that I use on all of my non-stick surfaces. I figure if your going to spend money on good non-stick bakeware or cookware, it's necessary to maintain and take care of them properly. Which is why I don't use any harsh cleaners of metal utensils on any of my cookware of bakeware. Of course I do break a baking dish now and then, but I try to be gentle when cleaning or using any of my non-stick bakeware or cookware, and yes Anchor Hocking does recommend that you don't use any knives, metal utensils, harsh scrubbing pads like SOS pads or harsh cleaners on the Anchor Hocking Casserole dish.
Where it can be used:
The Anchor Hocking Casserole Bakeware dish can be used in an Electric, Gas or a Microwave Oven safely. It should not be used in the broiler, toaster oven or on the top of an electric or gas stove.
The Anchor Hocking Casserole baking dish can be used for storing any foods in the refrigerator. The other day I made a very simple TIRAMISU Dessert ( which doesn't require baking) in the Anchor Hocking Casserole dish. Placed the glass lid on and put it in my fridge, and in a few hours it was ready to eat.
The Anchor Hocking Casserole baking dish can be used to store food in the freezer also. You can freeze any baked foods that have cooled off or any unbaked foods in the dish. A word of warning here is do not take the dish directly from the freezer to the oven. It should always be completely thawed first before baking or just reheating.
A Word Of Caution: Never add any liquid to a hot Casserole dish during baking or after baking unless the casserole has completely cooled down. I always make sure that the dish is at room temperature before washing it or soaking it in hot water. The temperature change could very easily crack the Anchor Hocking Casserole dish.
Never place the Anchor Hocking Casserole dish after removing it from the oven on a wet or cold surface. When I remove the baking dish from the oven I always set it on my wire cooling rack.
The extended handles on the Anchor Hocking Baking Dish extend out about a inch on each end and has an oval opening in each handle, so when your using a pot holder it's easy to be able to grab onto the handles to put the dish into the oven or retrieve it from the oven.
The Anchor Hocking Casserole dish comes with a 5 year Warranty.
The Anchor Hocking dish is a very versatile baking dish. It has a classy look to it and can be used right on your dinner table for serving. If your serving a hot dish always put the hot dish on a trivet or hot pad when placing it on your table. On Easter I will be using the Anchor Hocking Casserole dish to make my Green Bean Casserole. The Blue Colbolt color of the dish will go well with my table setting and will match my dinnerware which is beige with a blue design in the middle. After Easter I will be using the Anchor Casserole dish to use up any left over ham to make my Ham and Potato casserole.
Whether your making veggies, meat, potatoes or a casserole, the style of this Anchor Hocking Casserole Dish is sure to dress up any table setting.
I will be getting surgery on my wrist in May. So eventually I will be able to lift all of my bakeware from the oven without the use of my husband helping me. And no more broken bakeware in my kitchen again hopefully.
My final recommendation:
I like the idea that the Anchor Hocking Oval Casserole Baking dish can be used to bake, store, freeze or refrigerate and serve all in one classy dish. I love the convenience of the easy to grip extended handles, the clear glass lid, the non-stick interior surface, which cleans up very easy, and of course the Colbolt blue color of the dish. Because of the extended handles on the Anchor Hocking Casserole dish, it would make a nice gift for anyone with hand or wrist problems, or for just giving as a gift for any occasion.
