I've gone through so many glasses in my married years raising a family. It was time to get a new set and decided on this packaged set of 16 by Anchor Hocking. I finally threw out all mismatched glasses.
I purchased my set a couple of years ago at Walmart because of the price and that it came in 2 sizes. I just noticed it on the shelf at Walmart for $9.97 but it can be found for less around Christmas time.
Anchor Hocking Starfire - is the design from the bottom of the glass upt to mid section. The glasses are not light but not extremely heavy, just perfect weight.
Since 1905 Anchor Hocking has been producing many types of products for the home manufactured in the USA. They have an extensive selection of glassware sold at many stores including beverageware, candle containers, servingware, ovenware, storageware, lighting components and other glass products sold under various brand names or as customized solutions for private label lines (Anchor Hocking website). The glassware is durable and reasonably priced. Sets can be purchased in various sizes and quantities.
There are 12 different styles of glasses shown on their website of which you may only see a couple in any retails store. This style "Starfire" is called Central Park on the website but it's the same style. There are 2 colors; clear and the color Ivy.
This Starfire set has 8 glasses of 17 oz which is 6" tall. and 8 glasses of 12 oz which is 4" tall. The rims are thicker than the glass and so is the base of each glass making it durable and ease to care for.
Why did I choose this set? Before purchasing this set, I carefully opened the box and examined one glass carefully. Having experience of many different glasses, I wanted a set I could insert my hand inside to wash them with ease. I also wanted a glass that would hold more than 12 oz. It is not a thin glass that needs gentle care. I've had other glasses that looked nice with my dinnerware but only lasted a few years. As a matter of fact, I had a bad cut while washing dishes from a broken glass many years ago so I am very careful now before purchasing new glassware.
I like that I have 2 sets of glasses of 2 different sizes in the same style so I can set the table having all the same style for everyday use. For formal dinners, I do like to use my stemware.
I liked them so much last year I decided to give my daughter a set in the Ivy which she really liked as one of the Christmas gifts I gave her. She, too, had many different glasses in her cabinet that needed to be replaced.
Overall After using these glasses for about 2 years, I am extremely satisfied with the quality of these glasses. I know they will last a long time. The style is a contemporary and goes well with my dinnerware and flatware.
The 12 oz. glasses can be used for different types of drinks such as juice or on the rock drinks, etc. I like the tall 17 oz. glasses which can be filled with all types of thirst quenching drinks such as iced tea, soda, and has room for ice cubes.
This set has the perfect combination of 2 sizes in a 16 piece set which is easy to hold and wash. It is not stack-able but neither were other sets I've owned.
