| LaFeet's Full Review: Anchor Steam Beer |
WOW !, What an interesting taste ! This was my reaction when I first tried Anchor Steam Beer back in the early eighties. I was at one of those brew pubs that only served bottled beer, about 450 different types of bottled beer that is. This place had the cards that you marked off as you completed each beer.
My buddies and I would pass out the cards face down. We would look at the card in front of us and pick someone else's poison. This continued until you got the card back that you had. What a great way to try new beers!
I love Anchor Steam Beer, it is perhaps one of the most interesting styles being brewed today, lying somewhere between an ale and a lager. Brewed with lager yeast at ale temperatures, the beer has a unique combination of tastes.
The beer is well hopped, at least three times over, and yet it still retains a pleasant malty character.
I toured the facilities when I was last out that way. The beer is brewed in vessels only two feet deep, making this beer an original in today's mass produced and watered down market.
The taste is abrupt and sudden, and the taste lingers, but pleasantly.
I enjoy this beer with any thing off the grill, as well as most steaks and all sporting events.
This is not a beer that will go bad, it stores well. But it does not get better with age, it remains the same great brew as if it was just off the shelf.
If you like Red Dog, Red Wolf, MGD or Heineken you should enjoy this beer. Try it at your next beach party with some steamed clams, you won't be sorry.
