Pros: - Exceptionaly comfortable and durable. A better value than the "hyped" air beds
Cons: - Can't see/test it in a showroom--customers must use the free-trial method.
The Bottom Line: Highly recommended--good value and the most comfortabe mattress we've owned.

| vigilant1's Full Review: Anderson California Queen Contour-Air Mattress |
We did a lot of research before purchasing the Anderson Countour-air mattress (ours is a standard queen size). It has been a great purchase--we've had a decade of great sleep without a single problem. It incorporates a lot of features not available elsewhere and comes at a very fair price.
Features:
The mattress is similar to the much more heavily promoted "Sleep Number" mattress, but it is both better (in my opinion) and less expensive. The top of the mattress zips off allowing you to launder the padding on top. If you're familiar with dust mites, then you know that being able to wash the top of the mattress is a boon to the cleanliness of the spot in which you'll be spending 1/3rd of your hours. In addition, on top of the air chanmbers is a layer of visco-elastic foam ("memory foam" in popular vernacular). This is a very high quality foam and helps distribute your weight evenly and avoid pressure points. Finally, if you want it, you can get a top pad of merino wool. We didn't get this, but it is available for people who want to sleep warmer in the winter yet stay cool in the summer.
Each side of the mattress has a separate air pump. These are built right into the mattress(you can't feel them, and there are no hoses to break/kink with this design). Now, you can certainly hear it when you turn on the pump. My wife and I usualy give the other person warning before we hit the switch, as it can be startling if you aren't expecting it. This is not a major deal, since adjustments are required only every few months (at least in our case). There's no digital display, but I really think the "number thing" is a big gimmick. Just lie on the matress and hit the "inflate" or "deflate" button until the firmness is just right.
Durability--- We are a military family, so we moved homes frequently: deflating the bed, packing everything up, jamming it into a truck, heat/cold in storage, unpack, etc. We have never had any trouble with this mattress in over 10 years of use. It is a well-made item.
Other--
-- These mattresses are available as part of something called the "Ultimate Bed" system. In place of the traditional headboard and footboard, Anderson sells a very efficient platform bed/storage unit with tons of drawers. The Contour-Air mattress does not require a box spring underneath, so there's a lot of room for storage. It is a great use of space, but my wife wanted to keep the more formal conventional cherry bed frame we had. If you want to use your present bed, just make (or buy from Anderson) a small spacer unit that fits under the mattress in place of the box spring. It works great and will never wear out as a box spring would.
-- These mattresses are made in the US by a small family-owned company. They've been making them for years, and it appears to me that they care a lot about quality. Their web site may look a little "homespun," but the mattress is top notch.
