| DocSkinner's Full Review: Anna's Taqueria |
Forget that Taco Bell junk and those stupid "wraps" trying to make you think its a burrito, this place takes me back to the taco stands all over southern California. And it is more like a taco stand than a restaurant - they have a few tables, but grab a burrito and then go find yourself a nice cold Negro Modelo (They serve only soft drinks, including numerous ones of Hispanic/Latin America origin) to wash it down with.
This is BY FAR the closest to those killer burritos that I have found here in Boston, I have spent almost three years searching now. Get the super burrito with Chili Verde, all the fixin's (try the black beans), and add sour cream. Great flavor, and leaves me full for under $5! (And leaving me full isn't an easy affair...) They have all the usuals, and even refried beans for those recent Taco Bell converts, but forget about ground beef! Believe me, you will forget it (maybe even dread it...) after you try some of their meats - and yes, they do grilled Veggies for those no-meat eater.
Everything is great here, but I am always drawn back to the Chili Verde - try it and you'll be a addicted too! Nice to see they now have three locations, although the Porter location tends to slightly undercook the beans, but they are still very edible.
Food: Excellent food. It always reminds me of kickin back on the curb or bench outside a burrito joint in Los Angeles - none of this Mexican-food-prepared-by-a-french-chef junk most other so called "Mexican" restaurants try to sell you as Mexican food.
Service: Service is always fast - Think of a FRIENDLY Soup-Natzi type of situation.
Decor: Decor is very casual - you order along a counter and take it to a table, or where ever, and bus after yourself.
Special Notes, Tips or Menu Recommendations: DON'T USE A DAMN FORK! That is why they wrap them in foil. Pick it up, hold it vertically, either end up, and then peel away the foil as you eat. These things are juicy, however, so make sure you keep it over something other than your lap!
