rancid1993's Full Review: Anon Figment Goggle Ski Goggles
I am terrible at keeping track of my snowboard equipment, most notably goggles. I am on my second pair this year, as my last ones were lost the same day I sustained a concussion. Anyway, when beginning my search for another pair of goggles, I was looking at a bunch of brands, but I mainly was looking at a pair of Anon's. Even through it is owned by the mega-corporation Burton, Anon only manufactures four models of mens goggles.
One of my first choices of Anon goggles was the Subrosa model which is the least expensive because I really didn't want to lose an expensive pair of eyewear. Eventually my thought process was that if the goggles were nice enough, there would be no way I would lose them. I eventually settled on the Figment model because they were moderately priced and came in a variety of styles.
Product Options
The Figments come in a huge variety of colors and styles. The personal model that I chose was black, but there are many other color options. You can get black, brown, silver, khaki, white, blue, green, yellow, pink, and orange colored frames. If you really want to stand out there are some other options for you. Some of the specialty models are woodgrain, pinstripes, Black with the Logo covered in metal studs, checkered, and the incredible Leather framed goggles. One of the only bad things I have to say is only two lenses are available stock on the goggles, gold and gold mirror. There are replacement lenses available that have other tints, but those will cost you $20-$30.
Fit and Comfort
I have never worn any other Anon goggles, but this one fits my face well and I usually find the best fit with a "medium" fit goggle. The face foam is extremely comfortable making for a more pleasant experience with them. The strap is adjustable to fit different shaped heads and helmets.
On-Hill Performance
The first time I used these goggles it was snowing constantly all day and about 20 degrees. Those are defining conditions for a pair of goggles. Despite the miserable conditions, these goggles performed extremely well. The only time the goggles would fog is when I would accidently breath into them when strapping in (any pair of goggles would fog in that situation), but the fog would quickly vanish. The other times were when I would go into the warm lodge from the cold outside. Again, any of the goggles I have used would fog in that situation.
The model in which I have has the gold lens, which Anon calls the most versatile lens available. Because it was snowing the whole day, the sky was cloudy with it not being very bright outside. The amount of light that passed through the lens was perfect allowing for a great view through the goggles. The peripheral vision was not the best, but only the best goggles provide better vision.
Final Thoughts
The Figment is the Anon team's goggle of choice despite the fact it doesnt have as many features as the other Anon models and they are not as expensive. These are excellent performing goggles that really don't cost a lot and look very good on your head. Overall these goggles are an excellent choice for those looking to upgrade or are just starting out.
