The Discovery
As a music fan, I love all types of music from classical to hard rock. I have been disappointed with rock music in the 70's and 90's, but loved the 60's, 80's and now the 00's (not saying all music was bad in the 70's and 90's - just not my style). Passing through Borders, I saw this release just begging to be purchased. I own their Greatest Hits, but that Album leaves off many other good songs and really was a rip-off compared to this Anthology.
The songs
This is a compilation from four of their albums, and it covers their transition from the 70's to the 90's very well. While it does repeat music off the Greatest Hits, it adds several other songs that were some of my favorite tunes (Back where you Belong, Fade to Blue, Rebel to Rebel, etc.) Some music was more on the lines of hard rock, but towards the end on CD #2, the songs tended to take on a country-rock beat.
The package
This is a two CD-set (too bad I don't own a multi-cd player), that has got to be 80 minutes on each CD. The CD is clear and the songs are just as I remembered them. The CD case is not bulky like some compilations, and the jacket comes with a history of 38 special (which was very excellent reading).
Bottom line
Since I always liked 39 special, and didn't want to buy all the CD's, the low price of $24 was cheaper than paying $48 for the complete set. This is an excellent value for music put out by an excellent group.
