What's a body to do? Well, an old friend of my mother's once said, "After 40 you're nothing but a maintenance problem". I have never been able to forget that and I heard it long before I turned 40. Genetics has not been kind to me and I haven't either. I have several medical problems that I can't do a lot about, but I have been trying to eat right and get more exercise. I would like to say, maybe I've waited too long, but I know it's always better to start than just fade away. My Daddy used to say in his final years, "I hate to do all this stuff and take all these medications, but I guess it's better than the alternative". So, taking all that sage advise and listening to the doctor, I'm on a campaign to improve my diet and get more exercise.
My former spouse, used to make me so mad by saying it's simple to lose weight. You just have to eat less and move more. Of course, he never had a weight problem and is made mostly of wire. But, he would temper the statement with "I didn't say it was easy, I said it was simple". Well, it's kind of hard to ignore that obvious statement. He and my daughter both have the most incredible will power's I've ever seen though. I envy that.
The reason for the preface is that I have been spending more time in the gym and trying to eat less. Since I was diagnosed with diabetes, I have been counting the required nutrients. Sometimes, I need a little something to eat, if I get caught away from home without a good place to eat. Or, even, occasionally I get busy and forget to eat and know I need something pretty quick and easy and nutrition bars are a good substitute. They are a suitable substitute even for a diabetic, heart healthy diet if you count it with the rest of your daily intake. But, it takes a lot of label reading and ample calculations with the rest of your diet. But, as Daddy said, "It's better than the alternative".
Recently at my All American Fitness Center, I discovered or was introduced to Apex products. I bought several energy bars to try. I also purchased some of their vitamins, which looked like a reasonable combination of vitamins and minerals that I needed.
The Apex Fit Energy Bar comes in several flavors.
Chocolate Almond Toffee Bar
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Bar
Chocolate Mind Bar
Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Bar
Cookies 'N Cream Bar
Oatmeal Raisin Bar
Soy Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup
Soy Oatmeal Raisin Bar
So, far my favorites have been the Chocolate Almond Toffee Bar and Cookies 'N Cream Bar. While the nutrient and ingredient information is similar on all of them, they are enough different to warrant reading. I will be discussing the Chocolate Almond Toffee Bar because it is really my favorite.

Flavor
I have tasted quite a few yucky bars (the word cardboard quickly comes to mind) in my search, but I really like these. Apex Fit Energy Bar Chocolate Almond Toffee Bar tastes like an almond toffee candy bar. They are sweet, but not overpowering and I found them to be quite satisfying and filled the need for which I was searching.
Final Thoughts
These bars fit nicely into my day and make an easy substitute for a lost meal. The taste is good and I'm willing to pay the $2.00 per bar when I need them. I only use about 1 or 2 per week. I find that acceptable for the taste and occasional times I use them. I would recommend them to anyone.
