| RenegadeCJS's Full Review: Apple Studio Display 17 inch CRT Monitor |
I bought this moniter with my brand spankin new PPC G4 dual-500. I do movie editing, and I wanted a real workhorse. This moniter was reccomended by the company I purchased the computer from. I didn't really think much of it, it was the viewing portal not the real meat of my hardware. But when it came my first thought was, "SHINY!", it was probably the most infantile thing I've thought in my adult life. This flat-diplay (different from "flat-panel") was the best looking moniter I'd seen. On the outside anyways. I looked up to see I'd already wasted 20 minutes inspecting the OUTSIDE of a moniter. That has to say somthing. I then proceced to unload the rest of the computer and plug in. First i popped in a gaming favorite of mine, MythII: Soulblighter. This moniter, coupled with the ATI Rage Pro 128 that is standard in all new Apple machines, gave out the most crystal graphics I have yet encountered from a computer. The same from Unreal Tournament. The came time for a new style of test. I decided to try one of my High-Res video clips out. Besides amazing framerates provided by ATI's little powerhouse, the image was surreal. In comparison to my old Apple Multiscan 15 in. moniter, I was just blown away. This was the Ritz next to a cardboard block in the middle of the interstate. this moniter is the Creme de la Creme, coupled with any of the current Apple systems, this moniter will be the turning point in your computer viewing. The only step up I can see available is the flat panel beast that Apple offers. The only problem ist that it costs as much as a new computer itself. The moniter also uses a new style of connection supported by ATI and most other major graphics card companies. Thogh you may have to upgrade your card on old machines. And oh yeah, it provides TWO USB ports on the side also, and the new connector makes it self powered.
Renegade OUT.
