We purchased the 17" Apple Studio Display with our G3. I'm a sucker for things that look nice and I wanted it to match, so we paid a little more and purchased it.
Taking it out of the box I was amazed. It looked huge, like a gigantic iMac. With the tripod underneath the monitor it stands very tall. It's very stylish though, I think it's really a great design and I love the way it looks.
Besides the design, it has a very crisp clear display. We had problems when we first had the monitor because there was a small block of lightly colored lines in one corner the display. We called up tech support and they suggested hitting the side of the monitor gently, as it has some liquid type of material inside (similar to an Etch-a-Sketch) that would move or get rid of the lines. We hit the side of the monitor and the lines disappeared from the space they were at, and moved to a different spot. Finally we ended up having to send it back to Apple and they replaced it with a new one. Tech support told us that with Diamondtron monitors this happens frequently.
With the new monitor we had better luck, no unwanted extra lines.... but now we're having a different problem. The monitor flickers. You'll be sitting in front of the computer and all of a sudden the monitor will make this sparking noise and the display will go black for a second, then it will come back on again. It's happened about three times. We have yet to contact tech support for this problem.
I would buy this monitor if I had the choice again. I love the design and the look. It's a great monitor, with a nice clear display - but it does need a few improvements. I don't think I've ever had a perfect monitor, so the Apple Studio Display passes my test.
