| channer's Full Review: Apple Studio Display 17 inch CRT Monitor |
NOTE: this review is on the newer 17" CRT with ADC connector, not the one in the picture that is no longer available.
To put it quite simply, the 17" Apple Studio Display CRT is easy on the eyes. It features a completely flat Mitsubishi Diamondtron screen, very high refresh rates, built-in color calibration, high resolutions, all in a beautiful package.
Take it out of the box, put it on your desk, and plug the ADC cable into your PowerMac G4. Done. It is that simple to set up. One plug, and it's done. It has two USB ports on the side, effectively doubling the number of USB ports that come with the G4.
Now the important part, how does it look? In one word, spectacular. The screen is actually 16.0" visible area, but all of it is drenched in color. This is the best CRT to ever have an Apple badge. It supports resolutions up to 1600x1200 at 65Hz, but the beaty is when you run it at 1024x768 at 99Hz!
One last thing: there has never been a better packaged monitor. Period. The clear housing is beautiful, and it really shows the quality product that Apple makes. People will notice this monitor, and they will be jealous.
There isn't much more to say. This is hands down the best CRT Apple has ever offered, and it is also the last. They have been discontinued, but many are still out there, and surely can be found on eBay.
