I received my iSub just the other day after doing lots and lots of research on a new speaker system for my eMac. I looked into several 2.1 systems and listened to quite a few, including the fantastic Klipsch 2.1.
From what I read, you HAVE to have either a slot loading iMac, an eMac or a Power Mac. This speaker is not designed to work with anything else. Also, you must be running OS 9.1 or higher. I run Jaguar on my eMac 700.
In reference to another opinion that said the sound was flat, or barely audible, you have to go into your System Preferences and increase the volume on the iSub individually, apart from the main system volume.
I tested the built-in eMac speakers, and was not satisfied with the treble/bass balance. The iSub was blowing those little eMac speakers away it was so lound. Then I hooked up my old pair of generic, 10 year old speakers that I got with my first Windows 3.1 box. These speaker are those kind that have both a tweeter and a bass speaker on each unit. I think that they cost me $35 all those many years ago.
Let me tell you, the sound that was coming out of the eMac was rattling the windows and shaking the floor when I played Medal of Honor. It was AWESOME!
Next I tried several CD's and also internet radio. On both of those types of music, the Bass was deep and the trebles were clear and crisp. There was no distortion what-so-ever. I used the eMac's built-in equalizer to tweak the sound a bit and was even more pleased. You do have to lower the bass volume on games and increase it for music to get a good balance.
Hope this helps!
