| Kteacher's Full Review: Apple iMac 17 in. (M8812LL/A) Mac Desktop |
What a beautiful computer. The ads were convincing, and damn, what a beautiful computer. They got me with their marketing.
I do a lot of video production, and have had a lot of problems recently with my PC. I thought the Imac was the way to go. After all, their TV spots show all of these PC techie people making the 'Switch", so why shouldn't I ?
I picked up the 17" Imac for about 2 grand a few weeks ago. What a delight to set up. Very easy, took about 5 minutes from the box to my desk. Damn, this is a beautiful computer!
It sure was easy to use. Everything was just a click away. It was fun. And really beautiful.
Then my troubles began.
I installed the Mac version of Adobe Premiere, the video editing software I use on my PC. It wouldnt connect to my DV camera. Imovie would, but that program is really basic, and I need the more professional prowess of Premiere.
So I used I movie.
But the Mac isnt compatible with my scanner. So I cant scan images. I can scan them on another computer and import them, (which I tried to do, of course) but Imovie STILL wont recognize them.
I had to go to Photoshop and re-save the files. What a pain in the tuchas. But still, its a great looking computer.
SO then I go to download some MP3s to use in my movie.
Easy enough. But IMovie wont accept MP3s - only AFF files. Whatever the heck THOSE are.
Sure looks beautiful though.
And let me tell you, it still looked beautiful as I packed it up and returned it.
I wish the PC I exchanged it for was as beautiful. Well, at least it works without so many hassles.
