| rpoythress's Full Review: Apple MacBook Pro 15.4 in. (MA609LL/A) Notebook |
I sell computers business-to-business and have had a few clients purchase Apple notebooks. I almost went disowned my son when he said he wanted a MacBook Pro. But after seeing it and working with it, I am sold!!! My next computer will be a MacBook Pro.
It is very attractive (why can't other manufacturers hire someone with a little taste to design their notebooks?), thin and very light-weight (5.2 lbs). It is lightning fast and easy to use. The display (he chose the glossy screen) is very clear and bright. Graphics look great on it.
The screen has a camera built-in to the top of it and it comes with software that can keep you amused for hours just playing with the camera.
He got the iWork software. I would compare it to Microsoft Publisher, but there is no comparison. You could use it to do some of the same things you would use Publisher for, but it does so much more and does it excellently. I don't want to digress from reviewing the notebook itself, but had to plug this option. . . very worth the $79.
The keys are backlit, which is really nice when using it in a dark place. Even though I touch-type, I find myself looking at the keyboard from time-to-time. So kudos to Apple for the backlit keys.
Wireless connectivity works well as does everything. The O/S is easy to get used to and even after using it for hours to do lots of things, it doesn't begin to slow down like my Windows notebook.
The design of the latch that holds the screen closed is very clever. It is neat, unobtrusive, simple and works better than any I have seen, and I see a lot of notebooks.
Battery seems to last forever. . . easily 4 hours plus, even while doing all sorts of things on the computer. If you are only listening to music, it will last 6 or 8 hours.
It has DVI in case you want to plug it into a DVI monitor, and it has s-video out . . we have connected it to our TV and watched a movie purchased off iTunes.
The only thing I don't like is that Apple doesn't seem to offer Accidental Damage Protection as a part of AppleCare. I have seen a lot of clients drop their notebook or someone sit on it or some other stupid thing, and always promote Accid Damage Protection, but Apple doesn't offer it.
