| vjam's Full Review: Apple PowerBook G4 12.1 in. (M8760LL/A) Mac Notebo... |
First let me start off by saying that I have used hundreds of laptop computers from every manufacturer some now defunct and others well known. Yes, I am a computer Technician and have been testing, fixing and setting up laptops for years working for a large company that depends on their laptops for field use. The apple powerbook 12" is the one that I can finally whole heartedly recommend. The 12" powerbook is just what our field reps were looking for. The powerbook is light, weighing in at 4.6 lbs. Thats with everything included. I should say that I am talking about the 12" powerbook with the superdrive. What other laptop can you say weighs 4.6lbs and 1" thick with the super drive included. This is the first one that does it like this. There are some thin laptops out there but most are just CDRW/DVD laptops. The powerbook is a DVD-r and cdrw superdrive laptop. That means it burns and reads any format out there , DVD's burn at 4x.
I can't say enough about this machine it worked perfect right out of the box. Setting up for use on a wireless network is painless. If you use an airport router it's a no brainer. The 867mhz processor is more than fast enough but, I would recommend that you add the maximum amount of memory which is 640mb. Check out crucial for the extra memory it's worth the extra $100 it will cost.
Case is classy and nice looking if your interested in it's looks and now we get to what everybody seems to be complaining about.
Heat. The laptop does not overheat if anybody tells you it overheats they have no idea about what they are saying. I have not had one problem with this Powerbook overheating or have I had any of the 500 I service have any problem with overheating and I have not heard anybody who has been using this Powerbook since it's introduction about overheating. Yes it does get warm but, no warmer than any other laptop and it may feel like it's warmer because the case is aluminum and it dissipates the heat much better than any plastic housed laptop. That's the reason that it feels like it's overheating but it's not. The insides actually run cooler than most laptops. So if heat is whats bothering you forget it it's a non-factor
Like I said I can't say enough good about this Laptop. I live in both the PC world and the Apple world but, for now I prefer the Apple Powerbook world.
