| lukern's Full Review: Apple iBook 12.1 in. (M8485LL/A) Mac Notebook |
I've had my refurbished iBook for about six months now. I have to say it is one of the best computers to have while you are in college. This little guy can help you with your homework as well as endulge you in many different multimedia applications!!
First the thing to discuss is the rock solid operating system. I have the OS X Jaguar and it never crashes!! The only real problem I had with losing homework was when one of my papers had an error so it couldn't open, but that was just once so I haven forgiven my iBook for that.
With a 500 Mhz processor, a 66 Mhz system bus, and 372 of memory my little computer can handle almost anything I can throw at it, with time. I will admit that it isn't the fastest computer in the world, but given a little time it can still do everything I want, like mpeg encoding for VCDs takes forever for even a five minute video.
Speaking of video I can't import very much video because of the tiny 10 gigabyte hard-drive. But, since I bought my G4 iMac I do all my video stuff on that. So my 10 GB harddrive now is enough for my school work and a few other things like music.
Also I really like the combo DVD-CDRW drive. Although I admit the cd burner is a little slow at 4X. I like to also watch a dvd while I am doing my research in the library. The cd burner is necessary for sharing files with the dreaded PCs that my schools own. Also It is so easy to connect with the schools network, you just plug in the network cord and I can connect to the school's fast internet connection. Also my clever little iBook can pretend it is a windows computer so I can connect into the schools file server. And I dont have to know all that technical crap!!
And to conclude this review I have to admit I love the way this computer looks!! It is probably the most stylish laptop in my school. The only sad thing about this is that it scratches real easily and it is incredibly disapointing because of how good this computer looks :( But, when I pull this computer out of my backpack, all eyes in the class are on it!! People I dont even like comment on how great it looks. I love it!!!
