iPhone 3GS was worth the wait....... can't believe I didn't have one earlier

The Bottom Line: Definitely a great buy with tons of features and functionality -- there's a reason it has dominate market share in the smart phone category... Apple built a solid product.

So far my experience with the iPhone has been great.  
Let me just say I held out a long time converting from using an old LG phone with limited features to waiting for the next generations as the product matured so I had high expectations.  I bought it because I have been starving for a smart phone that does it all.... well.

The 3rd generation iPhone (3GS) is my first time owning one and I cannot be happier.   I thought it would take a lot of time getting used to the user interface, but it's amazingly a rapid process because it's surprisingly intuitive.
Highlights so far:
- Browsing the net is sweet on the large screen.  Tap to zoom, rotate for wide view.

- Integrating with your common email or calanders is simple as it gets; keeping up with email has never been easier.

- Adding apps from the app store adds endless possibilities, tons free.
   Just about every type of utility, game, whatever you can imagine.

- Texting is great.  Although it can get out of hand since it's feels so much like you're doing typical online IM or chat.

- Video capture and trim on the fly features are sweeeeet.  Quality is very good for a smart phone and you'd be amazed how useful editing/trimming video is - no more wasting disk space when you only want to keep say 5% of something you recorded.


Tips:
One of the first apps (and free) to add to the phone is Pandora.  I've not even added much music to the ipod functionality it works so well.

Also you can enable tethering although 'technically' not allowed by AT&T at http://help.benm.at/help.php 


Drawbacks:
- You'll find yourself wanting to use it for no good reason; for example waiting in line at the grocery store.  The days of letting my mind wander to "day dream" seem less and less when it's in my pocket.
- You're often worried in the beginning to scratch or ding it it's so nice (and expensive), but I so far refuse to add a protective case.
- Provider issue: AT&T sometimes has spotty 3G coverage and it feels like you're on a slow dial-up doing any internet related tasks.  Generally good experience.
