Pros: Excellent sound. Compact. High capacity. Easy to use interface. Firewire is fast.
Cons: Needs a better carrying case. Earbud cord and remote cord are almost too long.
The Bottom Line: If you have a mac and want an mp3 player, get the 10Gb iPod with the solid state scroll wheel and handheld remote.

| lexhair's Full Review: Apple iPod 1st Generation 10 GB (MAC) MP3 Player |
First thing I did when I got my iPod was order a protective case. It's certainly sturdy but I didn't want to nick it up nor scratch it. Marware makes a couple of nice cases which fit and protect very well. The case which comes with the iPod is ok but I wanted something more substantial since I don't clip the Ipod on my belt.
The iPod is rather expensive but it's been my experience with all of my Apple products that you get what you pay for. The iPod is no exception. The sound is exceptional and it can't be any easier to use. It works seemlessly with iTunes and the firewire connection is lightning quick. The earbuds deliver very good sound and unless you are a real audiophile or find earbuds uncomfortable, you should be more than satisfied. The only problem I've noticed is the earbud cord is so long (especially when you have the remote connected), they tangle easily.
If you've got a mac already and want an mp3 player, the iPod is a no brainer. If you want a great mp3 player and are in need of a new computer, the iPod is almost enough of a good reason to get a mac.
