| skinjob's Full Review: Apple iPod 2nd Generation 10 GB (PC) MP3 Player |
I purchased my 10GB Apple iPod less than a year ago and I cannot think of a better purchase that I've made in a long time (aside from my indispensable 500Mhz iBook... but that's another review for another day.)
I purchased the Windows version of the 10GB Apple iPod because at the time of purchase, I only had Windows machines. Luckily, my new iPod worked with Windows with MusicMatch Jukebox. I was able to download all of my MP3s of my CD collection in a matter of minutes.
The Hardware:
The iPod came boxed in an awesome cardboard box that opens up almost like a Jacob's Ladder. (kind of) The box is folded down the center horizontally, and then each side holds the iPod and its accessories, respectively. It's not surprising to see such attention to detail from a company like Apple.
The iPod came with the iPod itself (duh), earbuds (the iPod can use any regular 1/4" miniplug headphones), wire remote (which connects through the earbud wire), a FireWire cable (which connects the iPod to the host computer AND connects the iPod to its AC Adapter).
The 10GB Apple iPod is dressed in beautiful, pristine white face with a sleek, silver back (which can be engraved via Apple's website).
It's very slick looking and catches many a glance from people nearby. I've taken the iPod on many trips and many people that I meet are won over by the look and sound of the iPod. They are amazed that I have over 1,800 songs (1,848 to be exact - I use the 192kbs rip quality) and can quickly add and subtract whole albums.
The Software:
I don't care too much for MusicMatch Jukebox. It gets the job done but it's no match for iTunes. iTunes and the iPod was a match made in heaven. It's seamless to work with the two, and it's also very intuitive.
What's great about having the Windows iPod was the fact that I could migrate it to use with my new iBook.
If you're a Windows user and want to check out the king of MP3 players, check out the iPod from Apple. That way, if you ever pick up an Apple computer, you can migrate the iPod to use with your Apple machine.
The Conclusion:
This is the best you can get. The iPod has an extremely long battery life. It's lightweight, portable, durable and has immeasurable style.
There is a high techno-lust factor with this item. You can be sure that your friends will be jealous once you show them that you have one.
Even if you're a Windows user, you can still have the best MP3 player on the block - the iPod... from Apple.
