| gonja4000's Full Review: Apple iPod 2nd Generation 10 GB (PC) MP3 Player |
Now I know what you're looking for here. You want me to say that the iPod is a horrible piece of machinery, but the truth is... The iPod is awesome in every way, even though the price is set to be around 400 bucks, it's definately worth it for what you get!
Style is an accent that Apple did NOT leave behind. Although incredibly simple (having only 4 buttons and a scroll wheel), the iPod is a sensation all in it's own. It's slim design screams of a silent sophisticate. Coming in at only 4x2.4x0.72 inches and weighing in at a mere 6.5 ounces (10GB model), bulky CD players are a thing of the past! The revolution starts here!
I mean, it's skip-free! Due to the lack of moving parts and 20 minute (32MB) cache memory, the only skip that you'll get is from everybody crowding around you, checking this little devil out! Hey, who says that you need a cute little fluffy dog to walk in the park with, the iPod is a close second to attracting those delightful others :) But, isn't it every person's dream to be able to obtain skip-free music in the palm of their hands? I would definately have to think so.
The iPod was also the first mp3 player around to be able to pack on an amazing 1,000 songs along with 10 beaming hours of battery life into a pretty little package. Set the compression rate at 160kbps (the default for iTunes) and the 10GB version will hold around 2,000 songs, or 200 CDs! Compress the songs down to 128kbps and you'll get around 2,600 of them on there! Can you imagine what the 20GB will hold! Well I'll tell ya, 4,000 SONGS! WHOO! I highly doubt that, if you're not in the industry, you'll listen to 4,000 songs, but it'd be cool to be able to, right!?
With over 20 equalizer presets, custom listeners will have a ball! There are 21 presets that come with your new iPod and you can easily change them around from song to song. You can also modify existing ones or make your own with the iTunes software.
iTunes, the iPod software, can import and manage all of your music needs in your lil ole' pod. Well, with 1,000 songs on your hands, finding what you want would be a major pain in the patoot, right? WRONG! The beautifully configured scroll wheel lets you blow through your collection and pinpoint the song that you want.
Artists and song titles are displayed on an easily viewed LCD with a white LED backlight for those darkest of days.
The screen is HUGE! You'll love it!
Updating is a breeze! Just plug that bad boy in and it's all done before your very eyes. The unbelievably speedy FireWire connection transfers 1,000 songs from your library to your pod is less than 10 minutes, as opposed to hours and hours of mindless jargin, waiting... waiting... and maybe some more... waiting...
Now 10 hours of playtime may not seem like a lot put up with your 1,000 songs. Well, if you think so, how about this; the iPod will charge while you transfer music. Charge it up in 5 hours (3 hours will get you a little less, but still around 8 hours of play time). Charge it while you nap or in between classes, it's as easy as that.
Hell, you can even put movies, presentations, documents, and all sorts of junk on the 5, 10, and 20GB versions. As well as there being a wired remote control for the 10 and 20 GB versions, changing songs and volume will become an involuntary action! Also, the 10 and 20GB get the thrifty designer carrying case!
The iPod delivers better than CD quality music straight to your ears through the best on the market ear buds. From bass pounding techno to harmonic symphony chimes, it's all crystal clear! The iPod and earbuds are A 10 PLUS duo, none better for the price! Hell, I paid for it, so it must be GOOD! Have fun!
