| boardercms's Full Review: Apple iPod 1st Generation 5 GB (PC) MP3 Player |
When Apple first started advertising the new iPod I was hooked. It looked so cool. However a product cannot be judged on how 'cool' it looks. In addition to the iPod's stylish looks, it comes with a lot of 'muscle'. I choose the 5 gb version of the iPod for PC because I currently own a PC (Toshiba Sattelite. A 5 gb iPod holds a little over 1000 songs, which is absolutely amazing. I bought the product at an Apple store in Troy Michigan. When I got home I opened the packaging as quickly as possible and hooked up the MP3 player to my laptop. Hold up, let me back up for a minute and give a little bit of background for those who are new the MP3 industry. An *.mp3 is a kind of music file. There are other kinds of music files (.cda, .midi etc) but the mp3 is the most popular on the internet. You can download songs off of the internet in mP3 form and load them onto your MP3 player. Be careful though, downloading music IS ILLEGAL. Personally, I have tried to limit downloading music, because I respect the artists and what they are trying to accomplish. I also want to help them in doing so by buying their CDs instead of pirating them. Anyway, once you have an MP3 on your computer, say 'Everyday' By Bon Jovi, yuo can upload it onto your iPod using a firewire connection. Listen carefully though, firewire is a somewhat new technology, and most computers do not come equiped. You may have to buy a PC card for your computer to make your PC compatible with the iPod. Once you have the connection from your computer to your iPod taken care of, your are ready to roll. It takes on average about 1 second to upload a MP3 from your computer to your iPod. I am not even joking about this, It took me all but 1 minute to upload 1 whole cd to my iPod. One of the downsides to the iPod is the price. IT IS EXPENSIVE. The 5 gb ($299) holds a little over 1000 songs. The 10 gb ($399) holds a little over 200 songs. And the 20 gb ($499) holds a little over 4000 songs. The battery life on the iPod is the best I have seen in any portable device. It lasts over 10 hours! (my laptop lasts 3 hours) Despite the price, the sleek design, great battery life, ease of use makes the iPod one of THE BEST MP3 players on the market.
