cdbongo's Full Review: Apple iPod nano 1st Generation White (2 GB) MP3 Pl...
I understand full well that there are many ipod nano reviews out there, so i will skip every single detail to give my opinions and thoughts on this, at risk of being rated "not helpful"
I ordered my nano direct from the apple website, order and shipment was very good.
Before i got my ipod, I had already put all of my songs on itunes, so I connected the ipod to my computer, went through a few steps of the computer asking me weather it should just stick all the music on the nano, or let me choose, I choose to load it all up, and when i was sure it was transferring, I took a shower, came back, and it was all on there. Wow, fast, my old mp3 would have still been transferring one cd with it's usb 1.1 interface (nano has a speedy 2.0)
So my nano is ready to go, I plug in the earphones, crank up the tunes, and nano and me live hapily ever after right.
Nope, about a month later nano breaks, I dont get any sound out of one ear. No problem, I have a warrenty. The evening i found it broken, I went to apple's website, and litteraly a few clicks gets a box sent my way. Then the NEXT DAY, I come home from school to find my box ready, so I put nano in, tape it up, and call the delivery people to pick up the package the next day (note that apple gave me free shipping lables and even tape to tape the box shut. TWO DAYS LATER, I come home from school and see my new nano setting at my doorstep. So I load on the tunes again and nano is crankin.
I have had this new nano for about half a year now, and it has worked flawless, except for a few itunes screwups (nothing big) and althought I may not live hapily ever after with nano, but I know that apple has kick-butt service, so I can have perfect peace of mind.
And yes, everything that everyone says about the nano is true, its small, cute, durable, gets great battery life (note that it takes shorter than advertised to charge it) the screen looks great, so do pictures, and the interface couldn't be better.
There are a few nano myths that I would like to bust.
Screen breaks easily: Nope not true one bit
Nano scratches easily: Uhh, sure if you dont want your nano scratched, then buy a case, I used the screen protector that came with it, and haven't had a problem. The music sounds just as good on a scratched nano than on a scratch-free nano.
Sound quality is terrible: NO, it uses the same sound drivers as the 4th generation ipod, and you wont tell the difference between 192kbps and cd 90% of the time.
Earbuds suck: Not really, I have used them since day one, and they sound great and fit in my ear very comfortable, if you are that picky, go out and buy your own.
Nano's cost alot: They sure do, look at the price tag, but you wont find anything else drastically cheaper with the same qualities, and flash ram is pretty expensive itself, the peace of mind is worth every cent.
So in the end, I do sort of regret paying $200 for a mp3 player, but then thoughts of dropping a generic mp3 player and breaking it and being out the money assures me that the nano was a worthy investment.
