Twix109's Full Review: Apple iPod nano 1st Generation White (4 GB) MP3 Pl...
Well, I was getting tired of going to the gym and seeing all these people with Ipods strapped around there arms. I still had my bulky CD player. Danielle, get with it.
For my nineteenth birthday, I asked my parents to buy me a $249 Ipod nano. I only have about 200 songs on my computer, so I needed something bigger then the Ipod shuffle, and I know that since I never delete my songs, the 4GB, that holds 1,000 songs would be perfect for me.
I bought my Ipod nano at the Apple store, but it can be purchased online, or at any electronics store, like Best Buy, or 6th Ave.

Experience
I only really use my Ipod when I go to the gym. When I am home I have my stereo or laptop, so I use my Ipod almost every day - but it is not attached to me.
So now what do I do?
I don't read directions. I absolutely hate directions. But, for this, I read them anyway. The iTunes cd is included, so I loaded iTunes onto my laptop. All of my music on my computer was transferred into the iTunes library. I used the USB cable and plugged it into my Ipod nano, and my nano was then updated with all my music. It was very simple. Now, when I plug my Ipod in, it quickly updates it. iTunes is really easy. Even for people like my mom, that is computer illiterate, can figure out how to navigate iTunes.
Can my mom actually use this thing?
I'd say "With a little practice." I'm not really savvy, but I understand that there is a touch sensitive wheel that lets you go through the menu. The menu has several options like Music, Photos, Extras, Settings, Shuffle Songs, and Now Playing. The wheel is touch sensitive - a little too sensitive. The middle of the wheel is a button that allows you to click into the options. For my mom, the whole touch the wheel to scroll thing isn't really her thing. She wants to press buttons.
Battery Life
The Ipod nano says that it has 14 hours of battery life. I will probably never use this for 14 hours straight and will never actually count how many hours I get. All I know is that when the batteries run out, I turn on my laptop and charge my Ipod nano. In 3 hours, it is fully charged. In an hour and a half, my Ipod could last me a pretty long time. I absolutely hate having to use a laptop to charge my nano - but I'm broke and can't afford the other accessories to charge it without a computer
Loves
I love the black color. I have more black outfits than white outfits, so I chose a cool, sleek, black color. I also am a fan of the small size. It is so tiny, and so lightweight, that it adds no weight to my already heavy gym bag. The screen and color is vibrant. Even though it is only 1.5 inches, it is clear enough to read and see photos.
When I am on the treadmill running, I used to have a problem with my CD player being really big and bulky and falling off the treadmill. Also, my CD player used to skip so badly I wound up working out without any music because it was just so annoying. Firstly, if you can afford to buy the XtremeMac arm band for $29.95, do it. My nano stays snug around my arm when I am running or walking or lifting. It's amazing. And you never have to worry about skipping songs, it is so smooth and the sound quality is amazing.
An alarm clock and extra features. In college, since my mother is no longer my alarm clock, I set two alarms. I've slept through those alarms about four times. This is my third alarm. It's easy to have right by my bed and doesn't take up a lot of room and is loud enough for me to hear. The games are awesome. I pretty much stick to Solitare, but it comes in handy during a car ride or boring situation.
Another awesome thing is the accessories. I am unfortunately a broke college student, but was able to scrounge up $30 to by the arm band for the gym. I was looking on apple.com and can't wait to purchase new skins (protective cases) for my Ipod.
Danielle be drinkin' that HATERADE.
Okay, so I absoulutely hate those stupid earbuds. They don't stay in my gosh darn ears. I'm running and they fly out of my ears. YES! WHOOPIE! So I had to switch back to my Sony headphones. The earbuds are useless for me.
I think what everyone that owns these Ipods has a complaint about the stratches. The cheapo case that comes in the box will be good enough for me until I can afford other ones. Yes, your Ipod needs care. And, the fingerprints left on this baby is quite rediculous. It's a scratch and fingerprint attractor.
Also, as stated before, I really don't enjoy having to use a computer to charge my Ipod. I don't bring my laptop on vacation, so what am I going to do when the batteries run out? To buy a USB power adaptor, $29.00 that I do not have.
Final Thoughts
This is perfect for me for two reasons. One, I am a runner and the Ipod is too big. This is sleek, small, and perfect for my arm. Two, I don't have a big music collection and 1,000 songs is perfect for me.
If you are like my sister, who has over 10,000 songs or like my mom, who has under 100, the Ipod and Ipod Shuffle may be better for you.
It doesn't take a brain surgeon to use the Ipod nano. I need something easy, comfortable, and doesn't give me a junkload of problems since, as we all know, Life is hard enough.
Thanks for the read & Hope all is well,
Danielle
