Lamontagne's Full Review: Apple iPod 5th Generation White (30 GB) MP3 Player
Don't get me wrong, this thing isn't perfect, but the pros definitely outweigh the cons.
I purchased this for my girlfriend for Christmas. And she, lo and behold, had purchased the same exact thing for me.
I was immediately impressed by the amazingly fast transfer time from PC to Ipod. As soon as I connected it to my PC, it took off transferring all the songs on my Itunes over(This is an option, mind you. The default setting will not do this). It transferred about 2500 songs in about an hour. All while charging.
The playback options are great, allowing me to play all my songs in a row, or randomize the entire list, genre, artist, or album.
The screen is great for photos and videos, although small, but thats no surprise. Both these formats look as good as they do on your computer.
The only downside to this is videos have to be in Apple approved formats, which may require you to but a conversion program for anywhere from $20-$50. I should have realized this before I got excited about using the video options, but with a converter, its a snap.
Even with about 1/2 hour of video and 2500 songs, its not even close to half-way full. This thing is a beast for storage.
My biggest concern about this is the scratch factor. This thing scratches so easily, it almost seems that Apple did this intentionally.
I realize this is a fragile piece of gear, but I put it in my cloth-lined pocket for the ride home from work all by itself. When I got home, you'd swear it was skimmed down someone's gravel driveway. A case of protective skin is a MUST for this. Unless you want the 'rugged' look.
