Pros: Nobody beats Apple in design elegance and ease of use from the get go.
Cons: The customer support lady was friendly but not very knowledgeable.
The Bottom Line: Can't beat the value, the capacity, the video and photo capabilities, the sweet design and ease of use.

This year I finally joined the fray of Apple loyal fan base and bought an iMac for the family, an iPod Nano 8GB, and an iPod Shuffle for my daughter. I wanted to use the iPod Nano for listening to podcasts of Chinese lessons from ChinesePod in my daily commute between South Bay-San Francisco. You can learn a lot in 45 minutes.
I found it easy to rip my old CDs using the iTunes software. I also found it easy to sync my one-year old's photos created by my wife on iPhoto. Yes, the new iPod nano comes with larger capacity, and the ability to play videos. In order to convert your movie files into iPod playable format, I recommend using iSquint (free, downloadable from Apple's website) or its commercial version VisualHub.
I was only able to sync the podcasts after tinkering with iTunes for a couple of days. Calling the support line didn't help. Wait line was short, but the girl who answered my call didn't seem to know what she was doing. As soon as she found out that I was trying to sync podcasts from a third party, she said she couldn't help me. Thanks for nothing.
I finally figured out that on ChinesePod's website there is an iTune store plug-in that could automatically download the podcasts that I want.
I am now able to listen to the podcasts in the car by using an iPod adapter ($30 installed at your local stereo dealer) and I have to say it's life changing. My commute is much more productive and less boring.
