| melissasrn's Full Review: Aqua Leisure Swimschool Double-Sidedfoam Pad ET-93... |
Early last month, we had a large 30 foot round (52 inches deep) above ground pool installed in our back yard. The weather sure has been funny this summer (much cooler than normal), but we've still had a few good swimming days in between rainy periods and the deck building activities that have been keeping us more than busy lately. And since our youngest child's 3rd birthday came along soon after the pool was filled with water, my Mother-In-Law decided to buy pool related items as gifts for Tristan. What she chose was this Aqua Leisure Swim School Trainer (model ET-9335) in the Level 3 size along with a few other things. Tristan learned rather quickly that he was not allowed near the pool without wearing his new swimming aid, so he never complains about putting it on every time we go into the water together. Read on to find out more about this handy learn-to-swim system that's inexpensive as well as a confidence builder for young water lovers.
~~~The Swim Trainer~~~
The Aqua Leisure Swim School Trainer is a double sided foam pad vest made for young children and comes in three different sizes: Level 1 is designed for babies and is advertised to help baby overcome the fear of water. Then there's Level 2, which allows a child to enjoy the water with the family while it builds water confidence. And then the last stage is Level 3, which is recommended for children ages 2 to 4 years and is designed to help a child learn basic swimming skills in the water. Tristan has always been big for his age and I was afraid this swimming aid might be too small for him, but it fits perfectly! Not too snug or not too loose either. The Level 3 swim trainer itself is yellow and black in color and features removable foam pads that are worn on the chest area of the child. Constructed of durable super soft nylon material for maximum comfort, this swim vest is very simple to place on your child before swimming. It has black elastic straps over the shoulders as well as under the arms that stretch and adjust for a custom fit. Another velcro strap fastens at the straddle to keep the yellow padded sections in place. And as children gain confidence and learn to swim, the eight separate flotation pads can be removed through the zippered sections as needed to decrease buoyancy levels (called the Progressive Training System). So young swimmers-in-training ultimately feel safer in the water when wearing this Aqua Leisure Swim School Trainer. But by all means never let your guard down for a second as the whole concept can give youngsters a false sense of security, so use with close adult supervision only.
~~~Price & Availability~~~
Even though this Aqua Leisure Swim School Trainer was a gift at Tristan's 3rd birthday party last month, I know my Mother-in-Law purchased this swim instructor approved swim vest at Wal-Mart for $7.88 plus tax as the price sticker was left on the box. They have a large aisle near the toy department stocked with seasonal items like this all the time, and I've noticed they've already put some of their pool related merchandise on clearance already! So get one of these Aqua Leisure Swim School Trainers now before they are gone for another year.
~~~Our Experience~~~
It only takes a few seconds to place this Aqua Leisure Swim School Trainer on 3 year old Tristan whenever the family goes swimming together. The material is soft and comfortable, and the velcro stays in place as it should during use. Tristan definitely has much more confidence in the water when wearing this swimming aid, but he's not to the point where we can let go of him altogether just yet as he's still learning. His head would easily go under water if we DID let go completely though, so this water vest is certainly not meant to be used for lifesaving purposes. It dries very quickly in the sun although I've noticed some "picking" of the material in the front already (probably from going up and down the pool ladder) and we've just had this trainer for a few weeks now. We use this lightweight swimming vest with all the thin white foam pads placed inside (four in front and four in back) with the Level 3 logo side facing forward. And since we are leaving for our annual Florida vacation in just a few more days, we plan on bringing this Aqua Leisure Swim School Trainer along with us so Tristan will feel safer when in the water with us.
~~~Caution~~~
Please realize that this Aqua Leisure Swim School Trainer is NOT a lifesaving device. Under NO circumstances should a child be left in or around water unless a competent adult swimmer is present in the water or close to the child - supervising the child. COMPETENT ADULT SUPERVISION SHOULD ALWAYS BE PROVIDED TO PREVENT DROWNING OR OTHER INJURY. NEVER leave children unattended. Good safety practices should be followed at all times. The Level 3 trainer is not suitable for children under 2 years of age.
~~~Overall Recommendation~~~
If you have young child who is ready to be introduced to the water this summer, invest in one of these inexpensive Aqua Leisure Swim School Trainers to make the experience a safe and pleasant one for everyone. Adults can hold on to the child as he/she confidently learns kicking and arm motions that will eventually lead to more controlled swimming skills. This high quality teaching device can be purchased in separate models for babies and young toddlers in addition to the Level 3 vest pictured above for older children. So in conclusion, I must compliment my Mother-In-Law for picking out such a useful pool safety product. Way to go, Mom!! Give this Aqua Leisure Swim School Trainer a shot in your own backyard pool this summer and have lots of splashing fun with your little one. Good luck and stay cool IF summer ever decides to stick around for awhile :-)
