Aquafresh White Trays Are Just OK

Written: Apr 2, 2012
Rated a Very Helpful Review by the Epinions community
Pros:Easy to use
Whitens somewhat if teeth are discolored
Cons:Difficult to not talk, eat, or drink for 45 minutes!
The Bottom Line: If you have discolored teeth, perhaps Aquafresh White Trays will make them whiter.  If they are already white, you may not notice improvement.

At my last dental visit, I asked my dentist what he suggested for teeth whitening.  He recommended Aquafresh White Trays.

My teeth were already pretty white, but I still craved that “Hollywood smile!”  My husband, on the other hand, had very discolored teeth from coffee and colas.  I ended up buying two boxes of Aquafresh White Trays, one for him and one for myself.

Background:

I don’t know if the claim on the box in which the white trays are packaged is misleading or I misled myself.  I talked my hubby into using these along with me telling him he only had to use the trays once a day for three days, for the writing on the box stated, “ once a day” and “visibly whiter teeth in as little as 3 days.”  Now, if I had told him the whitening process was seven days, I am sure he would have nixed the whole thing.

Description:

A box of Aquafresh White Trays contains soft, thin, and flexible trays to fit your teeth.  The whitening gel in each tray is of medium consistency and mint tasting.  There is a tray for the top teeth and one for the bottom.  Each tray is labeled so you know which is the top and which is the bottom.  There are 14 trays - one for the top teeth and one for the bottom to last a total of 7 days.

The trays are made of a heavy cellophane type of material and are flexible to mold around the teeth and swish the gel in between teeth with fingers for adequate distribution.  The trays are disposable after each use of 45 minutes.  The ingredients in the gel are the same as a dentist would use for whitening and are enamel safe.

My Experience (and hubby’s):

As I said previously, my teeth were already pretty white and I didn’t notice a big difference after seven days of using Aquafresh White Trays.  The most difficult time for me was keeping my mouth shut without talking for 45 minutes!   This product did make my teeth sensitive to hot and cold drinks, but it didn’t cause irritation to my gums which was surprising.  A problem we both had was with the gel liquefying and dripping out of the corners of our mouths, so we had to keep a paper towel by our side.

My husband had no problems with sensitivity of either the teeth or the gums and his teeth did whiten somewhat but this product is definitely not magic.  He did appreciate the fact that I couldn’t talk for 45 minutes!

My Take:

Both my husband and myself are maintaining the whiteness of our teeth with Crest 3D White toothpaste and mouthwash. I don’t feel that any home whitening product can whiten the teeth as much as a dentist can in the office.  Even though the company claims this system uses the same ingredients as a dentist would use, I would think a dentist would use a stronger formula or other added ingredients.  However, the cost is much lower than professional whitening.

Cost:

I paid approximately $34.00 for each box of Aquafresh White Trays.

Caution:

Keep out of reach of children.
Consult your dentist if you have sore gums or sensitive teeth.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke while trays are in your mouth.
Avoid contact with fabrics.
Do not use if you have braces.
Do not sleep while using product.
