Aquafresh White & Shine Does Not Keep My Mouth Fresh
Written: Mar 15 '08
Product Rating:
Pros: has a nice taste
Cons: does not keep my mouth feeling clean for very long
The Bottom Line: Aquafresh White and Shine is a waste of money. It is too expensive for what it actually does. Get the regular, old cheaper Aquafresh and that should be fine.
atamogaokashii's Full Review: Aquafresh White & Shine Gel 6 oz
In the search for a great toothpaste that leaves my mouth with a minty fresh feeling even into the next morning, I happened upon a newer toothpaste called Aquafresh White & Shine in the flavor of fresh mint. It came in a two pack on sale at Target which is the main reason I purchased it. Aquafresh is generally a cheaper toothpaste than the other brands, but this toothpaste was a bit more expensive than the usual Aquafresh.
This toothpaste comes in 6 oz. Tubes in pretty boxes that are blue which shade into gray as you can see in the picture. They are kind of pretty actually. This toothpaste claims to whiten your teeth with a dual action formula that cleans and polishes. It also claims to make your teeth shiny. My guess is this is Aquafreshs way of competing with the more high end products Crest and Colgate are putting out.
The Tube
The tube is a typical toothpaste tube with the same coloring as the box. It has a giant screw top cap, (unlike Colgate or Crests tiny ones) which enables it to stand on its end on your bathroom counter or in your medicine cabinet for space saving measures. I dont really have much else to say about it. I mean, you squeeze it, the toothpaste comes out. Everybody pretty much knows how a tube of toothpaste works.
The Toothpaste
This toothpaste is not Aquafreshs signature three stripes in red, white and green. This toothpaste comes out in white and clear alternating stripes. My guess is the white stripe is supposedly the whitening part and the clear stripe is the shining stuff. According to the website there are microbuffers that clean and polish your teeth, perhaps as if you are getting your teeth polished by the dentist everyday. This toothpaste also has fluoride to help fight cavities. It has the normal, thick consistency of most toothpastes and stays put on my toothbrush. The taste is good, very minty and brushing my teeth with this toothpaste is pleasant enough. It seems to clean my teeth and theres no horrible stinging sensation or anything.
Does This Stuff Actually Whiten and Shine?
As for the claim that your teeth will be whiter and shinier after using this toothpaste, it is basically bunk. Ive been using this toothpaste twice a day for more than a month and have not noticed my teeth being any whiter or shinier (quite frankly, Ive never really thought of having shiny teeth but whatever). I havent gotten any cavities that I know of since using this toothpaste, so thats a good thing. But there is something about this toothpaste that makes me suspicious. Ive noticed that I now wake up in the morning with a really gross taste in my mouth, as if I hadnt brushed my teeth before going to bed, even though I did. This toothpaste just does not have staying power. It is because of this that I cannot recommend this toothpaste.
If you want to save money, just buy the regular old Aquafresh. It does a better job than this fancy looking toothpaste with a higher price tag.
