agingpeacock's Full Review: Aquajogger Classic Belt
Back when I was a "thirty something," my primary form of exercise was running augmented by Nordic Track and the aerobic slide. Flash forward a dozen years and my new primary form of fitness revolves around my "Aqua Jogger." Flat "Fred Flinstone" feet and age have made running impractical. Back in '91 I went on a singles weekend in the Catskills. Though the mountain scenery was beautiful, the roads were twisty and narrow. Not conducive to safe running. In addition, my goal was to meet eligible single women. So, leaving the resort for a solitary run was counter productive. These were the pre Internet days so, getting information was not like it is today, easy. Luck was on my side. I exchange massage for acu puncture and was reading a health and fitness magazine where I first spotted this neon blue foam device. I found out where I could buy one and off I went. Interestingly, I bought the last one at a deep discount. The gentleman at the now defunct athletic equipment store sold it to me for $29.95! I must say, this was one of the best investments in my 46 years on this earth!
At that time I believe there was only one Aqua Jogger model. This model is basically the "Classic" model. I recommend you peruse the excellent review by "Suzer."
She has a lot of important details regarding the different models. Her essay was so helpful, I feel there is no need to repeat what she reported.
The only thing I replaced was the black elastic belt. It stretched out and got twisted. Maintenance is easy but very important. The Aqua Jogger Classic is made out of the foam used for packing. Chlorine or salt water are corrosive and can wear down the foam. I always rinse my device with fresh cold water. After all these years it is still the deep neon blue. It is still flexible and soft. I jog and do many other aerobic exercises with it. I've never had any skin problems using it. After rinsing with cold fresh water, my Aqua Jogger is dry within an hour. I've taken it attached to my carry on bag when travelling by air. It is unbelievably convenient and easy to use. For myself it is very buoyant and I'm a big boy tipping the scales at a buck 90!
By the way, the standard belt on the classic model accommodates waistlines up to 44". The manufacture states that this is not a life preserver but a flotation device. Being under 6 feet, I can effectively use my jogger in 6 feet or deeper water. Unfortunately, many pools are now eschewing deeper depths in the interest of saving money and the overly litigious climate of the times we live in. Aqua Jogger sells videos and tutorials on the many forms of aqua jogging and other water exercises. This form of workout has been a godsend when recovering from ankle and lower back injuries. I highly recommend the Aqua Jogger to anyone who is not afraid of getting wet and having fun and fitness. Average price of the "Classic" is in the $45 range. I see more and more people of all ages taking to the water with an Aqua Jogger hugging their waste! It turns working out in the water into a social event. See you in the pool! :-)
