Dry skin is a problem for most everyone at some point and it is a common occurrence during the colder months of the year. Many different lotions, creams, and jellies exist to solve this problem but one of the best healers of dry skin and a multitude of other skin problems is Aquaphor Healing Ointment, a product from Eucerin.

Basic Facts About This Product:
Aquaphor Healing Ointment is similar to petroleum jelly in its look and feel. It is colorless and there is no fragrance added. The smell, which is one of mineral oil, is detectable but faint.
This ointment is thick and has to be squeezed out of its container and spread on the skin. It has a greasy feel to it which takes getting used to. It can be used to treat dry skin, burns, chapped or chafed skin, chapped lips, and skin irritations caused by medical procedures.
Directions for Use:
Eucerin recommends cleaning the affected area of the skin thoroughly before application is made. The ointment should then be applied liberally as frequently as necessary.
The active ingredient in Aquaphor Healing Ointment is Petrolatum. The other ingredients used to make Aquaphor include Mineral Oil, Ceresin, Lanolin Alcohol, Panthenol, Glycerin, and Bisabolol.

Aquaphor Healing Ointment is an excellent product for improving skin conditions caused by dry weather and various medical conditions. I first got to know Aquaphor following the birth of my little girl last year. This was one of many products I received at the hospital in the baby care package given to all new parents. I had seen Aquaphor in the store but never bothered to buy it, mainly because of my limited medical needs but also because of my ignorance about the usefulness and effectiveness of this product.
Now that I have sampled Aquaphor Healing Ointment, I can say that this is a very good and highly effective product. It goes to work on irritated or dry skin very quickly and it ends these and other problems in a short time. I experience dry skin in the winter time (mostly on the knuckles of each hand) and this is one way to easily eliminate the problem. A little dab on the patches of dry skin and the problem disappears quickly. I also use it when I have been performing a large amount of physical work- specifically, the type that makes ones hands raw. Tasks like moving boxes, working in the yard, etc., can lead to this type of problem. Again, a little dab of Aquaphor Healing Ointment on the fingers and palms of the hands is all it takes to get my skin looking healthy once again.
Like I stated above, this product is very similar to petroleum jelly. It has a similar appearance, feel, and scent. In the old days, petroleum jelly was my usual defense against dry skin and it performed at a satisfactory level. But Aquaphor Healing Ointment is a notch better than petroleum jelly. In fact, one could consider this product as a medicated form of petroleum jelly. It is the same in most very way except that it heals skin problems faster.
Aquaphor is a thick product and the thickness ensures that it wont run or drip off of your skin. But it will gradually wear itself off as it comes in contact with clothing or other things. It is the same problem many people experience with petroleum jelly. You have to be very careful what you touch because a good rub against a surface will remove the ointment from your skin. I have found that, once it has soaked in or worn off from ordinary living, the problem is usually gone (unlike with petroleum jelly, which I usually have to reapply throughout the day) and I dont need to add more. But for severe skin problems, you may have to keep a bottle of Aquaphor handy to make additional applications.
One common complaint with Aquaphor is the way it feels on the skin. It has that greasy, gel- like consistency (again, just like petroleum jelly) that slides between the fingers like Crisco shortening. I admit that the feel isnt the most pleasant but I try to ignore this when I use Aquaphor. I just keep reminding myself how much better my skin will feel once Aquaphor has had a chance to work its magic. The greasiness is really a small price to pay for something that works so well.
Overall, Aquaphor Healing Ointment is a very good product for eliminating skin irritation. It is a little greasy and it does cost more than similar products (1.75 oz. tube retails for about $5.00). But it performs beyond expectations, returning skin to its original vitality. It makes a great choice for those who live in cold climates or who have a frequent problem with dry, chapped, or irritated skin.
